He lied to us.
Bad memories of Dr. Caty. Our daughter was diagnosed with a rare cancer. Treatment involved surgery. Our hospital set us up with Dr. Caty. The prior year, there were less than 25 cases of this tumor in all of NY state. When we met with Dr. Caty about the surgery, our first question was about his experience, as loss of kidney was a common complication. He said he did about 6 or 7 per year, claiming nearly 25% of the state’s total cases, when the vast majority of people in NY live on the opposite end of the state (NYC metro). Obvious lie. We chose a NYC surgeon.A few years later, my daughter relapsed and needed a central line. We were told we had to get it placed by the originating surgeon (Caty). He gave us a 3 week delay (holding up her chemo). Fortunately, another surgeon offered to stay late to place it THAT day. Caty’s office then called and offered an appointment the following morning. Ethics matter. I don’t care where one works, or what one does for a living.

We had been told by our doctor that our infant daughter had a hernia. We made an appointment with Dr. Caty. He was kind and courteous. He explained everything simply so that we felt comfortable and understood what was going on. As it turned out, our daughter didn't have a hernia. He was amazing. He took us directly to ultrasound, and stayed with us to confirm his diagnosis. God bless Dr Caty!
