Didn't listen to me and they need a phlebotomist
I went in for an eye exam and the office was packed. When I was taken back there were several procedure rooms I had to go to and there was a different waiting room for each. I felt like I was in a factory. When in for my cataract surgery for the first eye they stuck me 6 times looking for a proper vein for the IV. Finally they called over the surgical nurse and she found a vein right away. Unacceptable! I was completely sedated for my first eye, not remembering anything of the surgery. For the second surgery, they had a surgical nurse attempt to place the IV. She tried, but the second flush didn't take, but left it in. When I went into the surgical room, I had to wait quite a long time on an uncomfortable flat bed. The sedation DID NOT WORK. I kept telling them that it wasn't working, and they all said it was, not believing me. I was aware of the entire procedure and was very scared. The last person wheeling me out said I wouldn't remember anything. I remember it ALL. Angry!

I've been putting off surgery for cataracts in both of my eyes for quite a while now so when a friend of mine recommended Dr. Caplan at Berkeley Eye Center, I decided to set up an appointment. This happened during Covid-19 right after they began lifting the restrictions so I was very pleased with their procedures for making sure both patient and staff were protected. I found their staff to be cheerful and helpful and I liked Dr. Caplan from the moment I met him. My appointments were on time with very little wait time. The surgery happens in a professional and normal surgical environment, complete with anesthesia. I thought Dr. Caplan was great and so was his staff. The recovery period is rather quick and just requires me to be meticulous in sticking to the schedule for drops in my eyes. I'm seeing better than ever without that veil the cataracts cause and will continue to look back on it as a very positive experience. Thanks Dr. Caplan and to your staff as well.

Appointment was for visual field analysis and eyeglass prescription. After the technicians performed the exams, Dr. Caplan reviewed the results and carefully examined my eyes. He inquired about the prior eye laser treatments seen in my retina (!); fortunately I could recall the Ophthalmologists that performed the work. I'm sure Dr. Caplan knows each of them (he had referred one of the doctors- who was excellent). I will see Dr. Caplan again for follow up. He is an EXCELLENT eye doctor.

I loved my 1st visit on yesterday to the office of Dr Caplan. The office was easy to find, free parking and the entire staff was very professional and friendly. I felt very comfortable. He and each technician, took their time as they attended each step of the preliminary process. Thank you! I would recommend Dr Caplan and his staff to others.
