Does not understand benefits ofnatural supplements
Melissa Young, MD was interviewed in a Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials article and is clearly uneducated about the benefits of the natural mineral- colloidal silver which has been used for many generations globally as a natural immune support and topically as an effective skin remedy. Historical usage dates back to Hippocrates (the Father of Medicine) 400 BC.Melissa Young wrote many false statements and half truths in this article which makes me question her bias 'western medicine only' viewpoint and not researching preventative options such as silver liquid minerals like colloidal silver.

Great!
Telehealth
Dr Young is warm, personable, kind and understanding of patients as complex beings. Has patiently worked with me for several years through many ups and downs in my health. Meets patient where they are. The test she orders are useful, as are the supplements. Have definitely improved with Dr Young’s treatment protocols. She won’t hesitate to refer to specialist if needed for additional testing or treatment. All around great doctor.

Definitely worth the Trip
Dr Young is part of the functional medicine team. They offer a comprehensive plan for improving patients’ health. There are a lot of forms, tests, and questions asked but sometimes that’s the only way to know what is going on inside a patient’s body. I feel fortunate to have found them after my own GP had no solutions for my unusual health issues. I don’t mind bloodwork, urine and stool tests or any other tool they need to help diagnose my illness!

You are expected to do this big long survey in advance of your first visit to create your health narrative. I did all the work but she never looks at my labs or any results until I am sitting in front of her. I have to repeatedly tell her about my history. After several visits I have had it. I expected supplements and alternative solutions & tests. I didn't expect to have the same western medical experience with a functional medicine doctor that I have everywhere else. The best part of the functional medicine center is their dietitians and therapist. Not sure how much of this is about functional medicine in a hospital system verses a private practice but she doesn't seem to make any effort at building a real relationship and treating the whole person. Totally opposite of everything I've learned about functional medicine..

I feel compelled to warn you. It started well. She seems very interested in helping me solve hormonal imbalances and "get to the root of the problem". But....she offers expensive supplements very willy nilly (saying to stop taking them after one visit yet adds a few more expensive supplements)(I was up to like 6-8 costly pills a day and it's worth mentioning that none of those made a bit of difference!) and she also orders expensive tests--all the while NOT giving any concrete answers about these complicated tests during the follow-up visit. She just adds another test before she can offer ANY answer. After a few visits, I had to see Dr Boucchard. DO NOT DO IT. i COMPLETELY lost faith after that. I would possibly chalk this down to me being a complicated case, however, I talked to a friend who had the EXACT same terrible experience exact!! Beware....your answers are probably not to be found here. Sorry.

Dr Young is so warm and personable! She was able to lead me to a diet and vitamins that would help my body start to heal itself. The results took a while, i was in horrible physical shape. Results were amazing, my discoid lupus went into remission, and with further appointments we were able to target the culprit of my fibromyalgia flares and I have been flare free for 5 years! If you’re willing to put in the time and effort, you won’t get better results with any other doctor. For those saying the fees are high and deducting stars from her review, pricing is set by Cleveland Clinic, not Dr. Young. My father and I both went to her and neither of us thought she ordered unnecessary tests.

I was surprised to see the low amount of stars left for this fabulous Dr! She helped me so much and was a crucial part of my recovery from a severe flare of a chronic condition. I learned so much from her and still use that knowledge regularly.

Too test happy (very expensive tests) and not willing to give treatment without over testing for things. Very little treatment given and just told to be patient. Very irritating.
