Dr. Matthew Vernon, MD

Do not choose this guy. I find him to be not well informed on very general health issues. He downplays everything, and if you mention a second issue you may want to talk about- he won't discuss until you visit again at a later appointment. Charges for yearly physicals, but doesn't even look into your ears, listen to your heart, etc.

Good luck if you need medication for anxiety, sleep. I've been seeing Dr. Vernon for over 5 years and even though he knows me, he treats any request as suspicious. Also, you'll be billed if you ask a secondary question during an exam. My last visit he didn't bring up recent lab results even though I was out of range in some areas. I give up. Do not recommend.

I was treated by Dr. Vernon mostly for hypertension and diabetes for about 18 months. Issues: 1. Billing - I was charged more money to ask a quick question. At an annual exam I was charged for both the annual exam and a regular appt. My insurance company felt that it should have all been covered under the annual exam, but Dr. Vernon would not change it. 2. Meds - I asked Dr. Vernon to renew a prescription that I was on with a previous doctor. I brought the medication bottle to the appointment so there were no questions. He called in a different medication and didn't counsel me on it. I called Dr. Vernon's office and asked them to fill the correct one. I was told I'd need to come in for another visit to discuss it. This situation happened twice. I've since changed providers and am on a different oral diabetes medication now that is controlling my sugar much better. The irony is the med I am on is one I asked Dr. Vernon about and he said it wasn't effective and was expensive.

I came down with a bad cough and a hemorrhoid at the same time and coughing was contracting muscles that left me in debilitating pain from the hemorrhoid. Vernon sent me to the hospital to be tested for the flu even though I didn't have a fever. Wasted my time and money and refused to talk about the hemorrhoid without another appointment. He gave me no note for work, and no prescriptions for either condition. A clinic took care of me in 30 minutes. Done with this guy.

Will not give you a note for work even if you have pneumia. And-If you finally get the nerve to discuss you might be depressed but are there for a blood pressure medication refill-was told doesn't have time to talk about that and to make another appointment! Finally decided my family needs to find another medical provider! Dr. Vernons medical assistant is very professional & sweet though.

I found him to be very general & nondetailed with information. My chart had incorrect medications listed along with wrong diagnoses. Seemed like he only wanted to touch the surface of conditions & not get real involved with patient care. I have seen him for 2 years & he acts like he doesn't know me. I don't recommend him at all to anyone I care about. I have a mistrust in his commitment & abilities. Try him & see what I am talking about... He will be nice but not a concerned practitioner.

Dr. Vernon is an excellent practitioner and does not order multiple frivolous tests as many young dr's now days seem to do. He explains his reasoning behind all diagnoses and is not quick to throw an array of medicines at diseases but treats illnesses in more of an old school method of health care. I have trusted him with my life ever since he joined the Middletown practice and can give no higher recommendation to any other family physician in the area.
