I saw Dr. Ortman because my cardiologist suspected I have pots or some form of dysautonomia. She sent me to him because electrophysiologist are often hailed as pots experts. Medical literature recommends these patients see electrophysiologists. Upon arriving at Cooper, they did the same tests as I have had at every doctors office, an ekg, blood pressure, and check of heart rate. I brought the evidence of my heart rate going to 200 on my heart monitor with light exercise. The results of my stress test where my heart rate went to 200 in under 6 minutes while walking on the treadmill. I was an average healthy person before this condition started. I brought the test results of everything else I had ruled out that was not pots. (Blood work, heart ultrasound, abdominal ultrasounds etc.) Dr. Ortman essentially told me that no one could treat me and if they said they could, they would be like “a snake oil salesman” with those claims. He prescribed me a baby dose of a beta blocker and told me there was nothing to be done and the baby blocker should “make me feel great.” Even when I inquired about further autonomic testing he told me he could not help me. If you are dealing with anything that is not remotely routine, like pots or dysautonomia, do not go to this doctor. He will not be able to help you. I have no commentary on him other than this. Also, for an appointment where he checked basic vitals and gave me a prescription, I got charged over $400 and I have really good insurance.

From the moment I walked in, the entire staff is at a level I have never experienced. Every single person I encountered was above and beyond with kindness, helpfulness and compassion. As for Dr. Ortman, I cannot say enough positive things. He is attentive and his knowledge provided continues to provide a great level of comfort. From the staff to Dr. Ortman himself, the experience goes well above a 10 score rating.
