Terrible physician
He performed two back surgeries on my before coming to Grants Pass. I have permanent nerve damage to my right leg after the second surgery he performed. I could go on about what a terrible experience this time was but it would be extensive. When he couldn't explain why I was continuing to have pain he asked me how much I weighed and how tall I was. I told him and he said, 'I'm 6'1' and don't weigh near that much'. I have never had such treatment from a physician.

My neck surgery
I had significant pain in my neck and shoulder and numbness in my hands. Dr. Matthew L. Miller listened intently on every word I said. He asked me questions so he could get an idea of what my symptoms were and coupled that with the MRI to form a plan of what I needed to have done on my cervical spine C2 -C6. Neurosurgery is, I believe, the most challenging of the specialties. The surgeon has to be brilliant, but also must have really great hands. It takes a lot of patience at times to perform certain delicate procedures in a surgery. Then there's the mental toughness and grit required to rise to the challenge because, after all, operations on the spine can be dangerous. Dr. Miller has ALL of these qualities and I feel blessed to have had my operation performed by him. I have total confidence in him. He's got a cracker jack staff too. Thank you all; Dr. Miller, Kaitlyn, Amber, Pam, Ashley and the rest. sincerely, W.T. of Roseburg, Oregon

REASON FOR 4 STARS
He removed my brain tumor for which I am grateful. But he . But he waited too long to do the surgery and the optic nerves to my eye (I only have 1 eye) is damaged. So I. only have 20/50 vision. Post op he became totally unavailable.

An excellent outcome completed by Dr. Miller
The overall experience was very good. From the front office to the exit appointment I experienced professional, courteous care. The follow up phone calls were always completed. This was the second surgery by Dr. Miller for my family. The first surgery was difficult and Dr. Miller handled the problem with skill and professionalism. I would highly recommend Dr. Miller for any neurological surgeries.

I would not recommend
On my first appointment with Dr.Miller, he spent maybe 10 minutes with me. He did not know anything about me and 2nd appointment he still didn’t know anything about me, almost has he didn’t even bother to review my chart. He treated me as I was just one more patient for him to see that day. I drove all the way to Medford for practically for nothing. All he recommended for me was surgery, didn’t even bother to explain what I was looking at on the MRI. Another 10 minutes wasted for him to say “ well good luck and call when you’re ready for surgery “ He didn’t look like he care about my condition nor the pain I am going through.

Nearly a month and still no appt date
An urgent referral was sent over for continued care of my brain injury, after my Neurologist retired. It was placed on his desk the same day---that part of the practice was amazing. However, it's been nearly a month (and several follow-up calls); apparently he still hasn't reviewed the referral and just got back from being gone for 2 weeks. During which time my symptoms are worse, the migraines are excruciating!! I had to seek some temporary relief from an ER visit. Looking at other reviews, the practice has a history of leaving people waiting, for months, for an appointment. The male who answers the phone has an "I don't care" tone in every call. From my experience, they don't care about your pain or need for help in southern Oregon.

Excellent surgeon
I found Dr.Miller to be a very caring person and he Listens to your concerns. To consider spine surgery in the first place you need confidence in your surgeon. My first surgery was a Laminectomy and the second a TLFT. I appreciate The care and attention From Dr.Miller and the staff at SONSA,

Dr Miller removed a benign brain tumor from my frontal lobe this last July. He did a great job of course since I am still alive. But I never saw him again after the surgery. I have called his office numerous times concerning some post op issues and never received a response. His office staff and assistant are not caring or helpful.

He has performed multiple surgeries in the last few years for a chronic condition. I have stopped counting, and he has not given up and continues to persevere. No matter how frustrating it becomes, he has told me to not give up. In the OR, he knows what he is doing. He is brisk but professional and explains what is going on well and what action if any should be taken. A couple of times has come in after hours even when not on call and done emergent surgeries. He has been very patient through all the surgeries and quick to act with my concerns. Dr. Miller is skilled and I have complete faith in his knowledge. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Matthew Miller performed two spine surgeries on me for two different problems about 15 months apart. I had been in pain for three years with a severe pinched nerve that had been misdiagnosed by another doctor. Dr. Miller performed an XLIF - extreme lateral inter body fusion and I had literally had no pain - other than surgical pain - from that time on. I was extremely pleased with his expertise and skill. A year later I fell and fractured my spine and caused another pinched nerve. Again Dr. Miller performed surgery and while the second recovery was slower, once again I am pain free. I am so very grateful for Dr. Miller.

My condition was diagnosed very quickly and correctly and surgery was scheduled within 3 days. My back and leg pain and muscle and nerve damage was debilitating and the surgery that Dr. Miller performed brought my life and activities back to near normal. Unless you have been through it, it is hard to explain how much these procedures restore your ability to lead a normal life. Truly amazing. I would definitely recommend Dr. Miller to anyone. Very professional and the staff and nurses at the hospital where surgery was done had nothing but nice things to say about Dr. Miller. That is a big plus in my book.
