I find it unconscionable that a patient (me) should come to an orthopedist with symptoms obviously of a torn rotator cuff,(4 days after asking for an appt for an urgent problem) only to be given an appointment for 5 days later for an ultrasound. And a refusal for anything for pain other than ibuprofen. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have developed a high pain tolerance, but this pain with movement is incapacitating. I'm a retired ER nurse and understand there's an opioid crisis, but 0.7% of patients given narcotics for pain become addicted. But because doctors are afraid of getting in trouble, 99.3% of us with real pain from a witnessed injury must suffer. Surely there should be a better way to provide care. Keep an opening on a couple doctors' schedule for urgent patients. Provide small amounts of pain meds so those with injuries can at least get some sleep. I am exhausted and miserable, but no one will help me.
