I am beyond grateful for the incredible psychological treatment I received, which has truly transformed my life. I was stuck in a moment of perpetual self abuse, loathing and negativity. I saw Dr. Theodore and I felt that she didn’t listen to my perspective as to what needed to be done to treat my combat-related trauma following US military service. This led to my being misdiagnosed regarding PTSD. Additionally, her office overcharged me for visits.

Dr. Mary Theodore has made a great difference in the quality of my life. I was in a state of emergency. Other local psychiatrists had a wait of several months before I could get an appointment. I needed an accurate and through diagnosis NOW along with medication individualized to my particular condition. Dr. Theodore compassionately made room for me. She kindly explored my symptoms, health and psychiatric background in great depth. She listened carefully and asked pertinent questions that reflected her extensive expertise in neurology and expressed no assumptions based on my age, sexual orientation or other categories as other medical professionals have done. Previous diagnoses by doctors were written up according to formula after a cursory interview. Dr. Theodore was able through her professional background in up to date findings in neuropharmacology to prescribe, along with adjustments, medication that enabled me to finally get on with my life instead of sleeping all day.

Dr. Theodore has helped me tremendously. I can actually say that I would be dead from suicide if I had not met Dr. Theodore. She has been a godsend to me. She is extremely thoughtful, caring, and supportive. She includes the patient 's opinion in her treatment plans and explains things thoroughly. She is a master at psychopharmacology and she is a psychotherapist, too. She makes great insights and has helped me confront my childhood trauma. I love her. Would recommend her without hesitation.

I have been seeing Dr. Theodore for the past four years. I started seeing her at Kaiser where she started and moved with her when she left to start her own private practice in NW Portland. She is a doctor I want to hang on to. She correctly diagnosed me with ADHD for the first time and I was 50 years old when She started me on the correct medication. To say it was nothing short of miraculous, is not an exaggeration. She and the medication have turned my life completely around. She is great!

Dr. Theodore is a caring psychiatrist. She does charge an insane amount per session, but it is so rare nowadays to find psychiatrists who are also certified psychologists for therapy. This is truly her strength as a practitioner, and her psychoanalytic skills are phenomenal. I truly believe she is one of the best practitioners in the Portland metro area. She is old-school in her methodology, but she is not entirely closed-minded to non-FDA approved treatments such as IV ketamine for depression.
