Gaslighting
I had pelvic prolapse and bladder sling surgery in October of 2023. Surgery recovery was awful, and I had complications. I continued to let them know. They assured me all the problems were “normal.” Here I am a year later, with a worse prolapse than before. I went in again, and she assured me repeatedly that this was not a prolapse, just the result of aging. I explained that I needed to manually put the prolapse back in, and that it would run on my underwear and hurt. She said that I just had a yeast infection and that was why it hurt. (I did not and do not have a Yeast infection.) she said none of my complaints were accurate for a prolapse. Before she left the examRoom she said “you look disappointed” I explained that while I did not want surgery again, I just couldn’t believe this was normal. I went and got a second opinion. Turns out I have level 3 prolapse, and now I need a full mesh repair. I think something went wrong and she didn’t want to admit she messed up. I’m disgusted.

Unsuccessful bladder lift that is now painful.
The assistant was very nice along with the doctor. I had a bladder lift, because I felt like I was gonna pee on myself all the time when I sneeze and cough. I no longer have that problem. But now, when my bladder fills it’s painful and at this particular time, I am not feeling like I am going to pee on myself. Sometimes the urine does not fill like it’s all out. They gave me tubing to catheterize myself. I’m not doing it. So now I have a $800 bill left from that my insurance did not Pay.. All I’m saying is think twice about getting the surgery.

DR. Awesome is more like it !
I have known Dr. South for a long time. She is compassionate, thorough and brilliant Physician. Urogynecology is obviously a more uncomfortable and complex field for patients, but she explains everything and puts you at ease. I recommend her all the time.

Urogynecologist who listens
I have PI which means I do not present like a "normal" patient. Dr. South accepts the challenge and is willing to try multiple interventions while keeping my underlying disease process in the forefront. If something didn't work she will move on to different methods, never disparaging my complaints or thoughts.

Young or aged to perfection, Dr. South offers concise and experienced care to all of her patients. She and Carmen offer a relaxed and empathetic environment where women may otherwise feel awkward and/or embarrassed. The office is incredibly efficient and the decor is gorgeous and impeccably clean. It’s hard to believe that this type of practice is right here in our back yards. Trust me when I say, you will be so happy knowing Dr. South (your bladder and uterus included)!

Terrible appointment. I had to decline -- in writing -- to be part of her "girl trouble" podcast and then it was very clear that she wasn't interested in treating me. Felt rushed, dismissed and unwelcome. Not going back.

Dr. Mary South is an excellent surgeon. Her office has very up to date equipment, and before surgery she makes sure her patients have all the information they need in advance. She gives you professional literature describing your surgery in great detail, which includes all you need to know before and after. She and her staff always ask if you have any questions, and if so, they make sure you get answers. When the anesthesia wore off after my surgery, I could just feel that everything in my vaginal area felt so much better. That is unusual, as I expected a great deal of pain, and, instead, I felt a great sense of peace. My recovery went just as described in the handouts I was given. There were no unexpected surprises. I would give Dr. South ten stars, if I could!

Dr South knows a lot about her field but I frequently left appointments with unanswered questions or feeling unheard. Post-op complications were sometimes dismissed and I frequently had to follow up myself to make sure things that were suggested actually happened. I think as long as your case is straight-forward and routine she’s probably one of the best. But, she’s incredibly busy and just doesn’t seem well equipped to manage patients who need some extra attention or more of a personal connection.

Dr. South is one of a kind doctor. She's warm, down to earth, and doesn't put on any airs, and listens to your opinions and such. I would never see any other doctor but her for any female problem. So glad my granddaughter worked and recommended her.

I had a total hysterectomy including ovaries at a young age and was not able to tolerate vaginal estrogen. This led to severe vaginal atrophy. Dr. South was so kind and was able to perform the Mona Lisa Touch procedure, which has produced amazing results. I highly recommend her as a Dr and the procedure.
