I became a patient of Dr. Quirno's in August of 2023. I was having extreme back pain and was taking steriods and doing PT. Dr. Quirno reviewed my MRI with me and, after discussing how pain management and PT were not helping, said I would need surgery. He explained everything in detail to me, explained things to my family at the hospital. After my surgery he came to my room daily to see my progress and to answer any questions I had. Every time I went to his office for my follow up visits I never felt rushed and always got to ask any questions.

I had a walk-in appointment they told me the surgeon is not available but we can help you. They noticed how severe my condition was. They reviewed my MRI and told me I need two lumbar fusions, S1 discectomy, spinal decompression and two herniation, removals, minimally invasive and clearly told me thereand clearly told me there’s no access for your spine to be released unflatten and decompressed until the herniations are removed .And then They made an emergency appointment. To see the spinal surgeon. They were upset at the fact that my insurance doesn’t allow co-pay and I didn’t have no credit card, ?? to provide them so they needed permission from the doctor to let me in and they did a unprofessional X-ray only three images of the entire spine which left no evidence wrong with me , they never reviewed the images of the x-ray and the MRIs with me to show me clearly what is the cause and where is the pain and the pressure coming from , I brought my latest MRIs and the dr. Martin spine doctor said if I do any of these surgeries you will be in more pain so I asked him what is the solution he’s like when you do your new MRIs, you’re welcome to see a second opinion or let your pain management figure out how he can fix it for you , I told him I’m getting two new MRIs because my condition is much severe and I can’t walk or get off the bed and keep collapsing for 18 years. He said oh well let your pain management figure it out. And the clerk on the desk wanted to try to make me a follow up appointment and he told her no don’t ,let him go One week before I seen him I did an x-ray 15 images or more, and they found out my spine is bent and I have bulging discs And one week after visiting this doctor I did additional images X-ray and the spine is still bent, and the discs are still bulging so I finally see him again today he doesn’t let me finish the sentence. He doesn’t want me to go further on how severe my condition is and kept telling me there’s nothing that can be done have your pain management figure it out… so I figured it’s basically a waste of time coming to this office if they don’t have your credit card account number they will constantly brush you off ,every surgeon office usually reviews all the images and shows you the images surgeon didn’t review nothing And didn’t show me nothing And wants to go, according to what he seen . And I had several surgeon doctors review my MRIs and pain management asked me when am I gonna get it done. so I went and chose this office and figured they’re part of NYU I can trust it because I’m not comfortable having it done on Staten Island University Hospital , and it turns out I got no solution no recommendation no advice they just wasted my time. And Dr. Martin The surgeon also said he never heard of a spine needing to be released. It didn’t make sense to him. .. I am back in the hospital they’re reviewing the same MRI that he reviewed and told me what needed to be done, And they were shocked at the fact he brushed me off and left me with no solution . .?? His office clearly told me you have to see the surgeon for the two bulging disc endoscopic lumbar fusion and you have to see the surgeon for the S1 discectomy and minimally invasive 2 herniation removal and spinal decompression . The doctor tried as much as possible to leave no evidence that there’s anything he could do for me every day I need an emergency my condition was very serious. And he said it clearly I needed all of this stuff, but if he does it, I’m gonna be in more pain, so why do they do this surgery for then? Isn’t it to avoid the pain? ??

Stay away from Dr. Quirno
Unfortunately I had a very bad experience with Dr. Martin Quirno. I came in with hip pain, and immediately without even examining me he said I needed deep spine surgery. He rushed out the door as I was asking questions about the long-term effects of spine surgery and why I need it. He both ignored and dismissed me when I said that physical therapy was helping along with acupuncture and heat. All he said was, "you need to have surgery. That's the only solution." The entire appointment lasted less than 5 minutes. I got opinions from three other doctors, all hip/back orthopedic specialists, and all said spine surgery wasn't needed and were all shocked that it was even suggested, since the pain I was having had no correlation with my back. They showed me my MRI, x-rays and walked me through it to show proof as to why. They also examined me, which is "being a doctor 101." Martin Quirno doesn't provide the basics of medical care, nor does he provide the basic medical information.

QUALITY OF LIFE!
Dr. Quirno is a soft-spoken, highly intelligent and competent surgeon. He performed an ALIF on my spine 4/26/21. I just had my last follow up with him. My discs have totally fused and the surgery was an overwhelming success. Dr. Quirno explained everything that was going to happen step by step. Prior to surgery I was in constant pain. Pain meds and therapy stopped helping me. I am only 50 years old and couldn't stand being in pain all the time. Dr. Quirno has given me my quality of life back and I don't regret my decision to have back surgery in the least. I would highly recommend Dr. Quirno to anyone suffering with back issues. His office staff is professional and efficient too.

Dr. Quirno is a gifted Spine Surgeon. Extremely professional with a conservative approach towards surgery. Prior to surgery, Dr. Quirno suggested that I attempt non surgical pain management options, that resulted in temporary relief, it became evident that I was candidate for surgery. Dr. Quirno thoroughly explained the procedure Anterior cervical discectomy with fusion. After surgery I was released from the hospital the next day. My recovery went well. I returned to work in 6 weeks. Thanks to Dr. Quirno, my quality of life has improved. Dr. Quirno has a high level of competence in his field. Every staff member in his office as well as NYU Hospital, demonstrated professionalism as well. I will forever be grateful for the quality of care that I have received as a patient of Dr.Quirno. I highly recommend Dr.Quirno to anyone who is considering spine surgery,

Dr. Quirno did my back surgery 10/8/18. before surgery was using pain meds daily just to be able to walk. Work was extremely difficult and painful for the last 3 years, since i sit at a computer, i would need to get up every 15 minutes, was unable to do any physical activity for past 3 years. After surgery, i experienced no pain or discomfort, i left the hospital the next morning. Returned to work in 3 weeks. in 4 months drove to Florida with no pain, a first in 20 years. returned to playing handball again. //Personally one of the nicest most straight forward, great disposition, thorough and knowledgeable doctor in his field, and now a friend for life. I would recommend Dr. Quirno to anyone who has any type of spinal discomfort, and do so regularly. He also speaks a few languages fluently, and can articulate his expertise in each efficiently. Life is actually better than before. I am grateful to have chosen him as my doctor/surgeon.

I was in need of lumbar surgery and was nervous about finding a Dr. who could do what was necessary without leaving me with MORE problems. Dr. Quirno was recommended and after meeting him, his professionalism, and answering my questions, I chose him to do the surgery. In January 2019 he performed laminectomies and fusions L3-L5. I have been home over 3 weeks and feel that I am progressing well. Dr. Quirno was truly a FIND!! NYU Longone Hosp has a wonderful staff in all areas I came in contact

Dr. Quirno is that rare breed of surgeon who takes the time to ensure that his patients and their significant others have ALL their questions answered. Add this to a caring a professional manner and a high level of competence. I have worked as a nurse and a standardized patient (an actor who evaluates medical students' abilities and competence) and speak from this experience as well as having been a patient. I felt very comfortable dealing with Dr. Quirno and was very happy with the surgery.

Dr. Quirno is everything I want in a physician. He is professional, competent, articulate, as well as warm, compassionate and caring. He is also a gifted surgeon. He guided me in exhausting nonsurgical solutions before I chose surgery. He made sure I had all relevant tests and was informed about the procedure and after-care. Thanks to Dr. Quirno's skills, I was transformed from a bedridden woman in constant agony to the fully functional, pain-free woman I am today! Thank you Dr. Quirno

I have multiple problems with my spine and have met Dr. Quirno when I couldn't walk any more because of significant pain in my legs due to pinched nerves in my spine. Dr. Quirno listened to me attentively and explained my problems and the possible surgery to me in detail. After the surgery on my spine, I feel very good now and can walk without pain after just two weeks after the surgery. Dr. Quirno is intelligent, professional, competent, friendly. I highly recommend him.
