my bilateral leg numbness and weakness was totally ignored. With months of says hey! Then told I had aortic calcification. Which tests proved wrong. So I lost my job and insurance. Due to to my legs giving out, I've now broken my ankle, twice. And Dr Whitaker has no reply.A surgery that was supposed to help me has ruined my life

I am living basically pain free six weeks after surgery. I had lived with constant neck and shoulder pain for over a year. Thank you, Dr. Whitaker

Confused
I saw Dr Whitaker in 2021 and was told I had cervical spinal stenosis by him. Now in 2024 after many years of physical therapy I returned for further evaluation. This time he said no spinal stenosis but a bulging disk & missing curvature. After today’s appointment I am reminded of why I didn’t continue care with Dr. Whitaker. His only recommendation was injections or surgery. I asked if chiropractic care could be an option and he said not really. Also does spinal stenosis just go away? I understand he has many years of experience but his cold demeanor tells me he probably needs to retire. He is not someone I would trust with further care of my condition, even if he is 100% correct in his assessment.

Rude, dismissive
I saw Dr. Whittaker today at Kansas Joint and Spine in Wichita. I was fat shamed, and then told to do non- surgical treatments again. If non surgical treatments worked, I wouldn't have been in his office! I was spoken to like I was 12 and couldn't understand anything. I have a Master's degree. I went through the entire x-ray series only to be told that I am too fat for surgery. This fact was known first thing in the appointment, prior to x-rays being done, when my height and weight was taken. A waste if time and money. Is this an insurance scam?

I had seen Dr. 2 years ago as a referral by a hand Dr. for my neck but was having no trouble with my neck. Tests and second opinion by another well known and respected showed that my neck did not need any surgery and I told Dr. then. I have a back problem that is documented and have received treatment for over the past 40 years. Sought Dr. to evaluate my back problem and told staff this and the nurse in my office visit. Dr. sent me instead for x-rays of my neck. I refused and explained I made the appointment for my back. Dr. insisted on neck x-ray and I refused and told tech if Dr. would not evaluate my back I would go somewhere else. I was told that Dr. would talk to me and returned to my examination room and no x-ray was take of my back. Dr. would not listen to the fact that I had a history of back problem and that past x-rays showed this. He instead fixed on wanting to do surgery on my neck that was determined not to be necessary 2 years ago. I am seeking help else where.

My daughter had surgery earlier today and later this evening her blood drain came out of her leg as she caught the tube while adjusting in the bed. This is a new procedure so my wife and we didn't know what to do. We called the number we were told to call, after leaving a message, Dr. Whitaker calls back and instead of bringing clarity to the situation, he asks "Can we re-inspect the tube tonight?" (Not in a way to tell us to come in, but rhetorical) And then says "I'm confused why you're calling..." I was so caught off guard I asked who I was speaking to again. He offered not guidance, instructions, or anything to monitor. As a concerned parent you should never feel bad for making sure your child is safe.

I had a spinal fusion with Dr Whiraker in 2015. . I feel like he should've gave more a information on recovery time and outcome of surgery! At visits after surgery he and the PA acted as though I wasn't in as much pain as I said I was! Two yrs after surgery I'm still have bad nerve pain and I'm sent for an epidermal injection and if that fails his next recommendation is a wire in my back??? Ummmm NO...I'm now seeing another surgeon for a second opinion...I think I've lost trust somewhere.

My husband had a 2 level lumbar fusion one year ago. Whitaker always seemed to rush through the appointments without really explaining what the surgery entailed, didn't answer questions, and gave very vague post op instructions. After the procedure he quit caring at all. he treated my husbands reoccurring post op pain like it was fake. Ended up going to see Dr. Grundmeyer where we were treated amazing and found out he had stenosis that needed another surgery.
