Dr. Mariyum Shakir, MD

I saw Dr. Shakir based on a friend's referral. My meeting with her was a complete waste of time. She didn't listen with interest to my concerns, spoke so quickly I could barely understand her, wasn't clear with her advice, and seemed eager to throw medication on me. She didn't know how to prescribe my medication (something every other nurse/doctor/OBGYN has known how to do) and prescribed the wrong thing. I left her office deeply upset. I hate to be harsh but she did not live up to my basic expectations of a healthcare provider.

I had been looking for a PCP who would work with me to get my good health in order and who would listen and ACT on taking care of my body. Dr. Shakir is just that doctor. I LOVE her!! - I ask all the questions that I want of her. She is patient and kind. - I ask for clarification and explanations, she gives them to me. - I find the staff friendly, patient, and helpful. - I am navigating the waters of menopause and the whole change of life; she is an excellent guide. - I didn't wait long. - My appointments have not felt rushed. - I see Dr. Shakir and myself as team members working collaboratively on my health and well being. - I got my blood work done right in her office and received my results within a couple of days. I am part of the MyConnect hospital system. I think that is very helpful because all of my doctors can see what's going on with me in a holistic way. I highly recommend her!

She follows up with you

Unfortunately, Dr. Shakir's whole office is a mess. After a visit 9 months ago, they have still not submitted my bloodwork expense (through labcorp) to my insurance company. I have called 15-20 times at this point and Taylor who works with their invoicing always promises to call me back, but she never does. If you are interested in spending hours upon hours calling insurance companies, labs, billing partners, and Dr. Shakir's co-workers, look no further. This is the perfect doctor's office for anyone who wants to waste a lot of time.

My experience with Dr. Shakir was very subpar. She was very quick with her assessment (maybe 5 minutes of questioning if that) and asked me if I wanted a flu vaccination when I visited her office at the end of November 2020. She sent me to a lab to get blood work and after waiting over a month for the results, I called her office and it turned out she received them but her office neglected to follow-up. She was quick with our call and said everything looked “ok”.Today I decided to ask for a copy of my bloodwork just to reconfirm everything, and as I review, I’m seeing details that she never mentioned on the report. I strongly do not recommend this doctor and as a woman of color, I’m highly disappointed in her lack of care towards her patients.

Dr. Shakir has been my PCP for many years. She cares about you as a person first. She has always made the concern for my Health and Well Being with not only her expertise as a Physician, but her kind, efficient, and professional bedside manner. She is also just an overall great person and I admire her. I cannot imagine trusting my care to anyone else. Also, she has the absolute best staff. The support staff values you, makes sure you have what you need and go above and beyond for everyone that walks through the door. The wait time is sufficient and comfortable. This has always been a great experience and I highly recommend this amazing Doctor and Environment.
