Dr. Maria Toledo, MD

She saved my life with emergency brain surgery almost 3 years ago. Now recently she has given me the gamma knife treatment. She is extremely caring and professional! I feel blessed to have her as my Dr. !

Dr Toledo did indeed cure my trigeminal neuralgia. I was left with tons of new problems. No concern for those though. My thought process is slowed, I struggle with problem solving. I never did before. I’m dizzy all the time I have fluid in a pocket behind my ear. This is 5 months later. I was told to call a nurse at the office if I had questions. She’s friendly but she has to talk to someone else to answer questions and then I’m not sure things are relayed properly. The last call I made was because I’m having trouble with fatigue and the bubble. I can only guess they got tired of me. I got no call back. At least send me somewhere to get help. I’m struggling to keep a job because the doctors last note to them was I’m ok. Well I’m not ok. Not one person any where cares. I dont want to live like this I could’ve stayed on the meds for the problem if I wanted to live in a fog. Now I have that and a multitude of other problems. How could I possibly recommend Dr Toledo to anyone.

My wife experienced headaches for most of her life. She never had a CT or MRI until she was 62 years old. They found a 7 cm tumor on her brain in the area in front of her right eye. It was causing a lot of pressure on the brain and we were rushed around to multiple doctors but nothing was happening. That was until Dr Toledo and her team to over her case. They evaluated and scheduled surgery as soon as they possibly could. My wife was a ticking time bomb for a stroke, seizures or worse, death. Dr Toledo said 'you need me' and boy did we. She performed a miracle. She was able to remove the tumor and gave me my wife back. She is still going through recovery but she is happy to be alive. Her memory and motor functions are great. Can't say enough for the care she received from Dr Toledo. She does treat her patients as family. I'm so grateful that we are part of her family of patients.

I received MRI’s showing problems on the left side of my brain; a dural AVM including a large feeding vessel and “many” anterior tentorial feeders. I was referred to Dr. Maria Toledo. Her office was called upon arriving, we learned my case was being discussed, anticipating our arrival. Dr. Toledo shared the complexity of the findings and thoroughly answered questions. She addressed concerns in minimizing life-threatening risk and assurance that she would be with me every step towards full recovery. Following an 8-hour procedure, we were so happy to see the joyous smile and hear the spirited voice of Dr. Toledo as she walked into the room following a most successful procedure. Friends and family remain in awe of what we have witnessed. I have no pains, no stitches, take no medications, the sound is gone and there is no longer that threat to my life. God bless you!!!!

I was life flighted to Sacred Heart from Crestview with a subarachnoid hemorrhage on Dec 16. I don't remember much about the experience other than asking Dr Toledo if I was going to die. She answered 'Not on my watch', knowing she couldn't guarantee that it made me feel better. When she said she treats her patients how she would treat her own family it is the truth! After my angiogram and finding 4 more aneurysms she came in on her day to repair them. I'm sure there were other Dr's just as capable but she wanted to do it herself. I WALKED out of Sacred Heart 16 days later! If I could give Dr Toledo 1000 stars I would! She made ME believe I was going to live!

Dr. Toledo always “ cuts to the chase.” She gives you the answers as best she is able. There’s no reason to leave with questions if she is able to clarify. My husband had a stroke and aneurysm on July 19, 2023. All of this was very new to us and very scary. Dr. Toledo was out of town but, we kept hearing, “when Dr. Toledo gets here,” So, expectations were a bit high. Upon her arrival and plans for further treatment we were very impressed. We have always felt she is, without doubt, the best neurosurgeon we could have. We thank God for her and her professional ability to work with brain patients throughout their difficulties. We have been with her through hospitalization, rehab, and Gamma Knife. We feel very blessed to have been put into her hands. With God’s help, we can all make this situation the best possible, under Dr. Toledo’s guidance and care. Thanks to her and to all who assist her.!

Had emergency brain surgery with stage 4 cancer discovered and Dr. Toledo and her lovely NP are the best at what they do - she could run the department at Mayo Clinic Rochester as far as I am concerned. They both have excellent communication skills and show so much compassion and empathy to patients and their families.

My mom was diagnosed with a Meningioma Brain tumor, she is 83 years old and in excellent health. My family was impressed with her expertise, her compassion, her wit, but mostly her extreme care for her patients. We are all so thankful for Dr. Toledo because as soon as her tumor was removed we got our mother back. She was alert, spirited, witty and remembered everyone and everything. My wife had a small tumor issue in her brain following her battle with Breast Cancer. Even though her care has been through Baptist Health Care, they had no neurosurgeon and they referred us to Dr. Toledo. She worked great between the Baptist MRI department for the tests she needed, and determined that my wife needed the Gamma Knife procedure for the tumor. Dr. Toledo guided us through every step of her care before and after she performed the Gamma Knife. The procedure was successful. Without stretching the truth one little bit, Dr. Toledo is the most impressive, caring, and professional Dr. in all of my wife's cancer care! Thinking about how she is considered to be the best neurosurgeon in our entire area, she is also very humble! She could have saved my wife's life, and if my life was at stake with a similar problem, I would be using Dr. Toledo as my surgeon, hands down!

Dr. Toledo is highly regarded by her colleagues. My mom was referred to Dr. Maria Toledo for emergency surgery because of a Dural AV Fistula (anuyerism) on her spinal cord. Mom had lost her ability to walk. Dr. Toledo performed a delicate, six hour surgery in which she was able to make a repair. Dr. Toledo and Assistant Etta were the best team we could have wished for. Mom is so thrilled she can now walk around her block and is ready to drive her riding mower. Thank you Dr. Toledo. La mejor doctora del mundo. Alivio el dolor de neuralgia del trigémino de mi esposo bien agradecida con ella excelente ser humano gracias y que Dios la siga bendiciendo grandemente. La operación fue en el 2013 en el hospital Hima de Caguas y hasta el día de hoy está muy bien. Si le volviera la condición otra vez voy a donde ella otra vez aunque tenga que irme de la isla .
