Should not treat children or teens
Dr. Yonker 'treated' my 17yo daughter for her chronic DAILY headaches & migraines for the better part of 8 months. She was dismissive, very little to no sympathy or empathy, & was more worried about me calling her 'Dr. Yonker' instead of trying to give my daughter the care & attention to try to help minimize the daily suffering. I actually got scolded in an email from her when I referred to her by her first name, Marcy, instead of Dr. Yonker. She actually wrote a whole paragraph about how she has studied for several years, risen to the top of her field. She then attached a New York Times article for me to read about why doctors should be called doctors. SERIOUSLY?? My husband & I brought ideas & suggestions to her from our own research. There were several occasions that it would be something (medicine, treatment) that she would then okay. Wouldn't you think she should have this info bc she's the 'top of her field?' Honestly the worst experience & still no relief for our daughter.

I used to see this doctor when I was in high school for migraines. Around when I turned 18 I had an episode where I blacked out and I was tested for epilepsy with EEG and it came back negative. However, I kept having odd deja vu like sensations that were overwhelming and definitely not normal. I told her about these and she wrote them off as auras to my migraines even though I told her they do not always result in migraine. After about a year of these increasing in frequency and severity I made an appointment with another neurologist. A week before my appointment, I had three complex partial seizures in a day (one in the ER so I was able to be properly diagnosed). I was diagnosed with epilepsy (the seizures continued until managed with medication) and I’ll never forget when my now neurologist told me those deja vu like sensations were TEXTBOOK DEFINITION of seizure activity. I can’t believe a neurologist working in a CHILDREN’S hospital would be so dismissive and frankly unqualified.

Saw Dr. Yonker today at Denver Children's for my daughter. I thought she was very rude and sarcastic. She criticized us for driving two hours to see a neurologist (herself) and said our pediatrician should have been able to help us. Our pediatrician is the one that referred us to Denver Children's. Never before have I had to defend our decision to seek profession medical care outside of our small town (we don't have pediatric neurologist).
