Great doctor
Incredibly thorough--spends the time needed to ask (and answer) every question. He's available: you can get an hour appointment in 1-2 days, and he will respond to emails within 24 hours (or be covered by Dr. Anand if he is traveling). He was extremely responsive by email when I got in trouble overseas and needed medial advice. A complete battery of labs (e.g., for a physical) will cost $50-$60. (For Kaiser, one test can be $50.). His experience as a Kaiser doctor led to the same frustrations as his patients: Kaiser is understaffed and over-subscribed; it is slow--sometimes fatally so--in appreciating the urgency of medical problems, and it is arrogant and patronizing in dealing with patients. He has set up a practice that is the opposite of everything Kaiser represents. Worth every penny of his subscription fee.

Dr. Heikens was very thorough in his examination yet kind and compassionate. I felt he was very engaged and wanted to get to know me as a person, not just as a patient. I would highly recommend him.

I was very disappointed with my experience seeing Dr. Heikens. He seemed to brush past my concerns quite quickly (regardless of my family history) and was more passionate about convincing me to get the flu shot than he was about what I came in for. He rushed quickly through the examination and asked little to no questions. It made me feel as though my health was in the hands of someone who had much more important things to worry about.
