2 for 1 Emergency gallbladder surgeries
I was under-medicated by Dr. Mallory Meyer D.O. on December 31, 2021 after gallbladder removal surgery at Lovelace Main Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. After surgery I gained consciousness with a mind-bending 10 or of 10 pain! Dr Meyer stuck a couple of ice cubes in my mouth. I told her I was in pain. Dr. Mallory Meyer looked at me firmly and told me the only way for me to feel less pain was to get up and keep walking immediately when I get back up to my room. I asked for more ice and got none. Had been in Lovelace Westside ER December 29th with gallbladder infection and pancreas infection. Transferred to Lovelace Main and she performed surgery #1 on December 30th clearing gallstones from my gallbladder ducts and closing me back up. Next day December 31, 2021 opening me back up for surgery #2 gallbladder removal and a 10 out of 10 mind-bending pain. I attended all follow up appointments at her office and never saw her again in-person. She did 2 surgeries when only 1 was necessary.

I required emergency surgery. There was no time to choose a surgeon. Dr Meyer was the surgeon on call and there was really no choice but to proceed. So, my family and I were anxious. There was no need for the anxiety. Dr Meyer was excellent. The surgical procedure was excellent. The recovery was excellent.

As a surgeon, she not only had excellent bed side manners, but is a grounded soul that explains, understands, and is patient. We needed that in an unstable condition...i knew my daughter was finally in good hands. Can't thank her enough for being the doctor she is!

Terrible. 10 days after gallbladder removal I began to have new, very severe pain. When I went for a follow-up visit, Dr. Meyer 1. was dismissive and disbelieving of my pain level 2. tried to convince me that this was a normal progression (it's not); 3. acted as though I was seeking recreational drugs; 4. told me that pain preventing me from sleeping was not her problem; 5. suggested that I wasn't actually in very much pain and that I just had a low pain threshold; and 6. facetiously advised that I go to the emergency room if I didn't like her response. Then she didn't call me back with test results before the weekend despite several reminders from her nurse. And worst, I discovered that she had given me a bunch of incorrect medical information (about complications, their likelihood, symptoms, etc.). Last I'll add that I'm a mid-30s professional with no other health issues and no drug history, I can only imagine how she treats patients with more complex issues or less privilege.

Dr. Meyer came very highly recommended by her fellow medical associates (who were family friends) which is how I ended up under her care for bilateral hernias. Dr. Meyer was very informative and accommodating with the laundry list of concerns/questions I had going into and after surgery. My surgery went well and recovered well from the hernia surgery. I did have some ongoing pain not a result of the surgery which was present prior to surgery. Dr. Meyer was very helpful trying to help me with that pain and got me referred to Drs that could help with it. Dr. Meyer made herself very available and responsive to all my follow up questions that came up throughout recovery. I highly recommend Dr. Meyer for anyone facing hernia surgery. I also am not a fan of pain medicine and thankfully required almost none following surgery (outside of over the counter) which I think is a result of how Dr Meyer performed the surgery (robotic, non very intrusive).
