Dr. Makoto Tokiwa, MD

had a c-section for a breech baby during the very early stages of labour - Dr. Tokiwa was the surgeon who delivered my baby and I am so thankful it was her on call at that time. She is phenomenally skilled and was able to perform a difficult delivery (breech baby) with minimal trauma to her patient (very small transverse incision, no bladder flap creation, double closure etc.). It was notable that there was barely any blood loss. I am now nearly a year post-partum and physically feel as I did before baby. I am still breastfeeding baby and attribute in part its success to the skill of Dr. Tokiwa and her team in performing the cesearean such that there was minimal trauma during delivery.

Dr. Tokiwa is one of the best doctors I've ever had, let alone gyno. She has an amazing balance of bed side manner with her medical knowledge. She has gotten me through some stressful moments over the last two years and I'm so grateful to have such an amazing doctor on my side.

I have seen Dr. Tokiwa twice and feel very disappointed with my experience with her. She seems inexperienced and does not seem to have an answer to any questions. She said there was only one way to test for endometriosis which is not true and did not provide any course of action of solution to any of my problems. I feel like it has been a waste of time seeing her.

My partner and I are 37 weeks pregnant. She had some spotting after a cervical exam so we called and spoke with Dr Tokiwa. She was very calm and reassuring and explained everything in a confident but easily digestible way. We both said we would feel great having her delivery our baby.

Dr. Tokiwa took her time with me and explained everything to me very carefully. She is one of the only doctors I've had that takes the courtesy of calling me herself with my test results, and she is easy to get a hold of one the phone and have a personal conversation--no nurses or assistants. I have found her to be a warm and caring doctor.

My annual with Dr. Tokiwa was by far the most dehumanizing experience I've ever had with a doctor. I didn't feel as though she addressed my questions or concerns, and my appointment was so rushed. When I mentioned pain I had been having, it seems like she didn't take it seriously and laughed? At the end of the appt, she asked if the speculum was causing pain, I said yes, and she took it out, told me how long pap smear results take to return, and left. I cried when she left to let me get dressed.
