I saw Dr. Zucker today at the Optum downtown LA office. I have been struggling with debilitating fatigue for 10 months now. Since then, I have read a lot about how women struggling with chronic fatigue are often dismissed, invalidated, and told they are imagining it or it is all psychological. That was exactly my experience with Dr. Zucker. He was so busy trying to tell me there was nothing wrong with me that he would not even let me finish a sentence. In the meantime, I can’t go more than two or three hours without needing to lie down. It has compromised my quality of life, my relationship with my daughter, and my ability to work. Dr. Zucker: do you want to be part of the army out there who are ignoring women’s embodied experiences? Even if you can’t find a diagnosis for me, can you still validate my experience? Can you still be empathetic and courteous? That is the difference between being an MD and a caregiver. I did not receive any “care” in your office today.
