Not for patients who have had a double mastectomy
I had heard great things about Dr. Carey from other patients who had gone through a breast cancer diagnosis or who were currently battling a breast cancer diagnosis. I was excited to find a doctor and get the care and expertise she had to offer. However, my personal experience with her wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for in an oncologist. From what I understand if you only have an lumpectomy she goes above and beyond with appointments, scans, lab work, etc.., to help catch a reoccurrence early on. However, if you had a double mastectomy she doesn't run any test, scans, lab work, etc., and when asked why there is a difference between patients who have had a lumpectomy vs a double mastectomy I was told that if the cancer came back after a double mastectomy it would come back as stage 4 and no matter when it was caught, the outcome would be the same. Meaning that there is no option for remission or cancer free after that.

Dr. Carey is very caring and has the best bedside care. She is proactive in her care and explains everything to you so you can understand it. She will deliver you the good news and bad news. But that is what she is supposed to do. You may not want to hear but but she has your best interest at heart. If you get her as your provider you will be glad you did!
