I had several fusions, in my lumbar spine. Dr. Albert, I believe is an excellent Neurosurgeon. I had a horrific experience with 2 nurses, a PT Assistant, and Dr. Harrelson - who was covering up for the FT nurse, who violated my HIPPA Rights, and the Contract nurse, who also violated my HIPPA Rights, who was supposedly caring for me-joke-at San Antonio Spine Hospital. I tried using the call button MULTIPLE TIMES to no response. I was concerned about the amount of urine, pooling under my surgical incision, and decided, I had to be very careful doing the log roll to keep my spine rigid and Niagara Falls continued onto the dirty gown on the floor. The room was fairly dark, but I could see my back brace, on a shelf, a few feet from the head of my bed. I SLOWLY inched my way, w my butt against the bed, around to the head of the bed, and knew I could reach it w my right arm, while holding onto the bed, and keeping my back very rigid (this was my 3rd back surgery, so I knew the drill) and as I brought the brace to the head of the bed, I dropped it. So, I decided, jeremy back rigid, that I had to kneel to put it on, but I had to pull the urine soaked blanket off the bed, to kneel on. As soon as I got on my knees, they collapsed, and I crumbled to the floor. The contract nurse, finally came in several minutes later, yelling at me for not calling and getting out of bed w assistance/I said I did, MULTIPLE TIMES, and she got me up, changed my gown, put a folded towel under the urine soaked foam mattress w a thin nylon cover, and then she tested the call button unit, and of course, it wasn’t working - the hospital head nurse, told me later after dr. Harrell son who I didn’t know from Adam, freaked me out, along e the crazy full time nurse, pointing her finger in my face for the 3rd time, like some lunatic, and Harrelson was stressing me out so much by the things he was saying, I felt like I was in “One Flew over The Cuckoos Nest” and they were going to try and put me in a psych ward -I admit, I was still full of drugs, but I garnered enough neurons, and told her to get out of my room, she’s violating my HIPPA Rights, then Harrelson said, the next day, no she was going to be your nurse yesterday and I said not in a million years. But the day before when he scared the living daylights out of me, I’d already put my shirt on, because I was getting out of there, even if I had to crawl out. I was attempting to put on loose nylon pants, and of course I couldn’t, and he said, “would you like me to leave while you get dressed, knowing full well I couldn’t and shouldn’t, and I told him, I really don’t care. He left, then Dr. Albert was standing outside, and came in, and I told him I want both nurses fired, and the PT Assistant-he said only the Board can hire and fire, and I realized, his corporate gamesmanship skills were not in tune with what had happened. He’s an excellent surgeon, but it took my, after firing a few more neurons, to fully explain what they did, and it jeopardized my recovery- I could have easily ended up paralyzed by their actions. I confirmed with hom, that I was admitted under his medical license-not any one else’s, and that if something had happened to me, it would be his license at risk, for unbelievable behavior by medical staff, that would have lied to cover for each other. Harrelson was gaslighting me. Harrelson then sent in the head nurse who was very low key and pleasant, to “as he said the next day-calm me down”- he & the nurse who should NEVER be allowed to work in the musical field, along with the contract nurse, were the worst Ive ever experienced and, I’ve had several major surgeries, a a couple of doozies, so the other two instances included an anesthesiologist in Chicago, who almost killed me using just a test dose of “curare”-every medical professional I tell about that incident, can’t believe even in the early 90’s that anyone would use Curare…but back to the Spine Hospital - The FT Nurse I understand is “no longer with them” after I had two intense discussions w their “Risk Manager”-after receiving a “form letter” obviously scripted by their legal staff, that they would “fully investigate” then the following Monday received another registered return receipt letter, saying they had fully investigated and found their high standard of care, had been met. I left her a voicemail that if that was their high standard of care, she needed to go down and lock the front doors of that hospital and not let anyone else be admitted. That got her attention-apparently she had only talked to the head nurse - and the perpetrators should have been called in, by HR, Ceo and Legal Counsel to provide legally binding statements regarding their actions- including “Dr. Harrelson”. I’ve worked in Corporate America most of my career, and “Risk Management” is there to protect the mothership. The beds were AWFUL; but having my door bashed open with a large piece of equipment while the FT TROUBLEMAKING NURSE had to be holding the handle so the idiot “kid” w/out an ID, batterrammed my door open w a metal rod device about 6’ long & 24” wide, running around the room, in what looked to me to be a halloween costume, after startling me awake, from a deep drug induced sleep; causing me to jump straight up, so the idiot nurse, who’d already awakened me earlier, apologizing for her part w the contract nurse, a few hours before gossiping about me in the hall, and wouldn’t lower their voices or shut the door, as both said “we’re watching you” and the FT nurse pointing at me - clearly HIPPA violations on both their parts, and refused to let me sleep for another 30 minutes or so while they cackled like a bunch of grackles in the corridor right outside my room.Sleep, sleep, sleep, was Dr. Albert’s direct order. I was on strict bedrest for 4-5 days, and the contract nurse had the audacity to tell me I’d been sleeping all day, and didn’t need anymore sleep - I had been in another unpopulated wing, and awoke to urinating in the bed, because at some point in my medically induced deep sleep, I had no way of knowing they’d removed the catheter after 4+ days -as I’d had my spinal cord dura layer debrided of scar tissue from two prior fusions, and learned recently, I had a spinal fluid leak. I could go on & on about the unprofessional behavior of the nurses & the PT Assistant; and Dr. Harrelson; but O no longer see his name on the roster, and hope he’s gone too. I understand there had been many complaints about him. So, I had to stay another night, until the Case Manager could find me a NICE rehab center, which was fabulous. So the hospital could cover their liability, they had the head of PT, put a belt around me, and walk me up and down the hallway, declaring I was fine - really? I have to say, my last night I had many great nurses, and I hope the riff raff have all been swept out w the Medical Waste. I have to say, the food I recall eating, was delicious, and NOT hospital food. But regardless, I wanted out of there, for Rehab at a different location. I had PTSD for several months because of the multiple incidents. I told my neighbor what all Dr. Harrelson did, and she nailed it -she said he was gaslighting you. How those people had kept their jobs there, I have no idea, because I couldn’t have been the first patient to experience their rabid misbehavior. But, after Rehab, and my first couple appointments w Dr. Albert I admit, I was skeptical about his seemingly shortness/ nervousness about what happened, I understand he’s one of the many shareholders’ of the hospital, but the patient has to be validated, and told, I’ll see this through. I believe he did, and I became less upset as the months passed, but this is where mixing medical care, with corporate ownership - even in small shares, endangers the patient the doctor is responsible for ultimate, irrefutably EXCELLENCE at all levels of care. I know he implemented the rule EVERYONE MUST WEAR A BADGE AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON DUTY. But that was just the tip of the iceberg regarding that hospital. I was supposed to have L2 fused to L1, because L2 isn’t growing bone -which concerns me that I just now was able to start the Tymrol; but I decided I was still too weak, to go in for yet another surgery. I’ve luckily found THE BEST PT CLINIC I’ve ever been to, and I can walk to it. It’s Optimum Physio at San Pedro and Mulberry. The head PT is a Doctor of PT, and his staff is phenomenal. They have me doing a lot of lower body and core strengthening, and all the employees work in a relay system with you. I’ve had PT at several different places, and this is BY FAR, the best I’ve ever experienced. Sorry, Dr. Albert, your PT team is good, but I’d recommend you have Dr. Mark DeAnda consult with you, if he would on a contract basis, because I’ve made much more progress w Optimum. Of course when I was at your PT Climic, I was still tripping and falling - hard - almost daily. But the exercises I’m doing at Optimum are making a huge difference.

Healing Hands
Dr. Albert and his Staff are all fantastic people, who treat me with the utmost respect. Dr. Albert explained in detail how my back operation turned out and the procedure he used. I told Dr. Albert that he has 'Healing Hands', because he took away the pain I was enduring for 5 years. I am now pain free and getting back to a normal life.Thank you Dr. Albert and your entire staff for everything. GOD BLESS Rich.

Very Kind and Informative
I recently went for a consult with Dr Albert regarding chronic pain in my lumbar spine. He was so kind and very informative about what he observed in my MRI. He plans to send me for EMG and NCS study to get to the bottom of things before making any big choices. I really felt comfortable and confident in his opinions. I look forward to seeing him again.

Disappointing
If I could give Dr. Ladislau Albert zero stars I would. In his opinion there was nothing he could do for me. I get that. But he went on to say my symptoms are because I’m fat. I’M LITERALLY DRAGGING MY LEG. Fat people don’t just have a random, sudden onset of leg dragging. He went on to say, “Kudos to you for attempting to lose weight.” And then LITERALLY SAID - YOU ARE FREE TO GO. He could have simply said, I can’t help you, I’m sorry. But he felt it necessary to degrade, dehumanize and humiliate me.

Met with Dr.Albert knowing I had disk issues. He performed a c5-c6 fusion. The entire process was explained and I am very grateful the fantastic job by him and his team. The hospital staff was also very professional. I had a c3-c4 procedure 5 years ago with a different surgeon and my reccomendation would be Dr. Albert

Absolute WORST doctor experience of my life. I'm suffering severe neck/back pain and concerning changes of fractured vertebrae found by my oncologist during a routine CT checkup from a previous unrelated tumor. This office is quick to call to setup an appointment so they can collect their specialist co-pay and charge your insurance a fortune. A week before my appointment a nurse called to collect ALL of my medical history. At appointment I relayed all this info to the nurse in person and then again to Dr.Albert who then told me "Unfortunately since you have other medical conditions (autoimmune/neurological), I can't do anything for you because if we have to do surgery it is done from a private hospital that doesn't have specialists on-site should an issue arise." He did not even review my previous images that they had cd of on desk. He got up said he is sorry for my pain but to "Have an excellent day and the exit is down the hall"!! I left in tears and broke down once in car.

He is truly gifted as a surgeon and I would highly recommend Dr. Albert to anyone who has back problems. His staff is very professional and treats you the way you would want to be treated. Dr. Albert performed a laminectomy to counter lumbar stenosis in October 2018. This surgery was 100% successful and it's like I never had the problem. I can even run again, something I thought was gone forever. In the run-up to the surgery, Dr. Albert and I discussed various options. As a 70-year-old, I opted for surgery with some concerns; however, based on an appreciation of Dr. Albert's evident professionalism and his reputation (and of course the results), it was a good decision. The surgery was done at the Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio, an impressive institution known for its outstanding facilities and highly capable staff. Dr. Albert's team has kept in touch since the surgery to follow up on my progress. Should you or your family or friends require the expertise of an accomplished neurosurgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Albert.

Dr. Albert just completed a Laminectomy, due to spinal stenosis, on my much better half, Sandra, on March 21, 2019. I have never experienced a more efficient, professional and courteous medical system, ever. Her left leg was beyond pain as it was actually numb. She says she had improved feeling there immediately after surgery. If I ever require such a surgery there is no question Dr. Albert and his Team would be my first choice. Five+ stars. Craig R. Each neurosurgical patient is a unique individual. The right treatment must be specifically tailored to a combination of that person's anatomical findings, emotional state, and family support system. A neurosurgeon must always remember to treat the person and not just the radiologic and clinical exam findings.
