Horrible experience
This is the cliff notes version -I never take the time to write reviews about doctors, but I feel compelled to share my experience as a warning to others. Today, I had my 1st appointment with Dr. Kwan Cheng in Bethpage. He barely introduced himself & immediately focused on my weight, telling me that surgery was my only option for weight loss, meanwhile, I was there for my hashimotos & hypothyroidism. I acknowledged being overweight but made it clear I wasn’t seeking weight loss medications or surgery. Despite this, Dr. Cheng insisted that the medications are not covered by my insurance now, but when I develop diabetes in a few years, they would be. He also dismissed my concerns about a thyroid biopsy & wrote down a name of a YouTube exercise program, still claiming I wouldn’t lose weight without surgery. I left feeling belittled and disrespected. I immediately asked the front desk to switch providers for next yr & will not return to Dr. Cheng. No one should be treated this way!!

Dr Cheng is very easy to talk with and very compassionate. He explained my condition and ways to help and make it better. He is also respectful of my time. He does not let you wait for when you have an appointment.

Dismissive & Incompetent
I’ve never left a bad review for a doctor before. He’s incredibly dismissive & incompetent. I’m a medical provider & can’t believe the obvious signs he missed on physical exam & didn’t chart or realize were hallmarks of a condition. Such incompetence is dangerous. My boyfriend (who was in the room) said he couldn’t believe how I was treated & how he dismissed me & normalized my very abnormal symptoms. Such misogyny, making generalizations that these symptoms are common for women. Like another reviewer said he fought me over ordering labs & when the labs were abnormal refused to start me on medication (because he would have to admit he was wrong). I had to advocate for myself & literally write in the message that I felt he was being dismissive & not treating my condition. Then he relented & said we could try the medication. I’m so glad I insisted because it made a difference & alleviated my symptoms. Thankfully I found another endocrinologist to follow up with. Please avoid Dr. Cheng.

Encouraging
I met Dr. Cheng in 2022, and my diabetes was out of control. He set me on the right path with a new device, which has helped me. This year has rendered me major tragedies and I loss control. Again, Dr. Cheng was there to redirect me. I felt connected to him, and wish him continued success. I will miss you Dr. Cheng. Thank you, for your quality of care you provided me.

Fantastic Professional with excellent skill
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Cheng for a few years now. He is a terrific Doctor who I believe stays abreast of the newest pharmaceutical and therapeutic treatments available for DMII. He doesn’t follow a cookie cutter treatment plan and works with you to implement a good treatment that fits you. Very satisfied with his care, and I’ve also never had to wait for than 2-3 min in his waiting room. Efficient, intelligent, and cares about his patients.

I have suffered from Diabetes II for over a decade now. I saw my general practitioner for years with no results and scary high glucose numbers (300-400's) regularly. I'm only 44 and I started to have serious health consequences of what was basically "untreated" diabetes. While I didn't care for the wait time during my first few visits, I have to say, it was well worth the wait. Dr. Cheng took a holistic approach to my health and for the first time in YEARS, my numbers are normalizing! I'm seeing actual positive change and it's pretty refreshing. He knows his stuff.

If you are looking for a doctor that doesn't treat your symptoms and condition with a one size fit all mindset, especially as a woman, then this is definitely not the doctor for you. He was my doctor for almost 1 year and I had more questions than answers and no resolution to my issues. After conducting my own research on what my next steps should be, I asked if I could get a more thorough analysis of my blood work, which should have been conducted from the start and he fought me at every turn. Not because he couldn't do it, he just simply refused to. He even suggested that I find a new endocrinologist, who would do the blood work, which I had planned to do anyways. It is so important to find doctors that investigate the root cause our conditions and not just provide medication and have us keep coming back every 3-6 months with no real resolutions.

Do not go to this doctor
Do not go to this doctor if you care about your health. Disregarded all my issues. I left feeling even worst about my condition, frustrated and hopeless. He tried to make my symptoms seem like they were normal and not out of the ordinary, even after I persistently told them they were getting worst, affecting my day to day life, my sleep and wellbeing. He offered absolutely no help or solution. Didn’t give me comprehensive feedback on my results and no answers to my questions. Happy I found another doctor who is an actual professional and is offering solutions to treatment.
