ER visit for asthma
I have a significant history of breathing problems and hospitalization because of this. Went to er on a Monday holiday with asthma exacerbation, shortness of breath. I’ve done everything I’m supposed to do at home and I know when it’s time to go in. He refused to contact my pulmonologist and said he didn’t need to do so. He didn’t draw any labs and barely listened to my lung sounds. The only test he did was a X-ray to rule out pneumonia. Doctor told me I wasn’t dying and “why did I want to be in the hospital so bad”. Even told him I would probably get worse at home and have to come back in. His response “I can’t control what you do”. Even the nurse was apologizing for this doctor.

Amazing communication skills! Asked tons of questions and wanted more and more specific examples. Felt very heard and understood. Would HIGHLY recommend this very detailed doctor. Unfortunate that Dr. Pothoven does not see patients outside of the ER as he would be my first choice as a primary physician.

Absolute worst bedside manner. Would call ahead to see if he was on call or avoid the establishment all together.
