I came into ER with severe pain thinking I was having a heart attack. After multiple tests I was found to have a gallstone in a bile duct. Was told by a surgeon that I’d need it removed. In OR prep Dr. Gaylord took the time to waylay fear (that was nearly overtaking me) by showing me on screen exactly what was wrong and what was needed to resolve the problem. I was so very grateful for him and his ability to fix the problem.

Excellent Gastroenterologist
Dr Gaylord has performed two of my colonoscopies and both times was extremely comforting and offered very good advice. I was very happy to be able to schedule with him for the second one. Also, very efficient and responsive.

Had a routine colonoscopy with Dr. Gaylord. I found him to be friendly and he made me feel comfortable tight away. Excellent experience considering the type of procedure. Great communication.

After Colonoscopy, we returned for his prognosis and were told that "he found nothing wrong and there was no sign of Colitis or inflammation and the pathology report also didn't show any issues or signs of Colitis." I obtained a copy of the report and it clearly stated that colitis was present. That was in December 2019. Today is January 2020 and we still have not been able to see him, and my wife has lost about 20 lbs because she cannot retain any food. She is now very weak and cannot fully function. No matter to Dr Gaylord! He does not have time to see her. I believe this borders on malpractice. Stay away from this practice.

He always takes the time to listen to all my stomach issues & goes over treatment plans with me. I never feel rushed out of his office.

I liked Dr. Gaylord ok, he did my Colonoscopy in 2015, but BEWARE of their office and billing practices!!! At pre-op, I was given the total cost for the procedure. I asked, as I always do, if that covered that days appointment, surgery, and post-op. I was told YES. Long story short, I was charged separately for the post-op. They refused to reimburse me, and when I set up payment arrangements - they sent me directly to collections. Never missed a payment or made a late payment. Will NEVER go back

Gaylord is a quack - he was so rude to me and appears to have little knowledge of how the digestive system works. Told me that i read too much and tried to tell me that my symptoms were from being 'nervous'. He tried to tell me i had IBS - Turns out i had food allergies [had to figure that out on my own]. This is a stupid man - stay away!

Dr Gaylord performed a routine colonoscopy on my immediate family member in July. He perforated her colon 1 cm, sent her to the ER to confirm that he had, and sent her home! She ended up hours later taken back via ambulance, had an emergency bowel resection within 24 hours & spent the next 8 days hospitalized. She now has a scar from chest to pelvis and is facing several more weeks of recuperation after the surgeon saved her life. He has made crass phone calls to her since.

Dr. Gaylord performed my husband's colonoscopy. Unfortunately, he found a large cancerous tumor. Dr. Gaylord did proceed with CT, and confirmed the high likelyhood of lymph node involvement. He then promptly referred my husband to a vascular surgeon. Yes, this doctor is also a general surgeon, but his specialty is veins. How do you refer a cancer patient to the wrong specialty?! The surgeon's office confirmed we would have gone only to be redirected to the only colon surgeon in town.

My experience was through my brother and just from what I saw this doctor had no attention to detail, no compassion, and my brother probably would have gotten better results if he had been seen by some 7 year old playing doctor. I would not recommend this doctor or New Hanover Regional hospital to anyone that wants to live. The last time I saw this doctor in hospital he didn't even check vitals, computer, and barely looked the direction of my brother. This is just what I witnessed.
