Uncaring front desk Staff
I was a patient of Dr. Sumner and he had to take a leave of absence. I was scheduled to see Dr. Melacon in the time he was out. The first visit I could not leave work and I called and let them know that I couldn't make it in. The second time I didn't call because it was flooding all over the city and I could not make it in. I was seeing a councilor Kim there and I was telling her that my meds were not working so she said ask the ladies at the front desk to ask Dr. Melacon to call you and discuss the meds. So . I did well I tried I ask the lady at the desk and she said Dr. Melacon is not going to call you because you missed your appointments. I said I am just asking because Kim ask me to ask you. When the desk lady said again, she is not going to call you. I said when did you become a doctor? She said you cannot come back here and I will leave a note for Dr. Sumner . I said I am not saying that. You are. I did tell her I have issues thats the only reason I go there and I said to her

Easy to talk to!
I found Dr. Summer to be very attentive and proactive in treatment. He is very conscientious in regards to what is going on in my life and makes adjustments accordingly! He is not quick to throw medicine at the problem til he is sure that’s the best plan! I like that he is easy to talk to and actually listens! I am thankful to have found him when I did! I appreciate his open and honest presentation of my issues and care plan!!

He's a huge help!
I have been going to Dr. Sumner for years. I find him to be caring, compassionate, observant, truthful and willing to keep trying till the right combination of meds are found. He listens to me and speaks his mind and never appears to be bored. He's been my lifesaver.

Exceeded expectations
I was a bit scared with all the bad reviews, but I went in with an open mind. Melinda at the front desk is a saint. Dr. Sumner was so knowledgeable. I was amazed at how thorough he was. He took the time to explain to me the hows and whys of the diagnosis and of the medication he was prescribing me. I'm not smart, but he explained things so clearly that I understood them. He wrote me a little chart for my treatment plan. He spoke to my concerns before I even expressed them, making sure the medication I was given did not cause weight gain or drowsiness. I must say that he doesn't have the typical "doctor stare," where clinicians make no response to something shocking you say to them. He has quite an expressive face. And as for the front desk, I did hear them dealing with some difficult patients over the phone. I can understand how these things may come across as rude to some, but I had an overwhelmingly positive experience!

Completely Unprofessional
This Doctor is a completely unprofessional and has no business providing mental health care to the community due to lack of compassion and basic bedside mannerism. From what I got to learn about him regarding his refusal to respond to patients, refusing to take messages, and the way he treats his office staff, it is extremely clear that this is the last person I would want to care for me or my family. I forewarn you, there are many doctors out there who actually care about their patients but this is definitely not one of them. He is a product of todays flawed healthcare system that cares more about billing you than helping you.

Rude and Uncaring
I was an inpatient in a hospital in Laplace for deep depression. I was assigned to Dr Sumner. He was very cold and lacked the empathy that my normal psychiatrist has. I think he was offended that I wouldn’t let him change my medication after a 30 minute evaluation. I told him that I’d only let my dr change my medication. He wouldn’t let me leave the facility, or have another appointment with me. I saw him in the halls and said “due to the way you’ve treated me, I’d never reach out for help again” his answer “do you think I care?” He clearly doesn’t care. When I talked to the hospital staff about him they apologized and all agreed that he’s not a good dr and treats everyone like that. One staff member called him “heartless”. I’m deeply depressed right now but I’m not asking for help because of him. If the worse happens, I will definitely include his name in tue note so he might see how his callous treatment of people has a big impact.

The most miserable, invalidating and inconsiderate "Doctor". His ego has cost us 3 months of our lives, an inpatient medical hospital stay immediately after his "expert care" was administered, after increasing dosages of medications that had proven an allergic reaction. You would be better off dying than letting this clown treat you or anyone you love.

He hates his patients.loves Saks fifth avenue! Will threat you like cattle. Has a grandiose attitude. Do not tell this man your personal business. If he smiles it's not good for you.no bedside manner. Very rude. Wait till you get a copy of the reports he writes about you in his office. He's not your friend just remember that! He doesn't care about you or your struggles! Office staff is just as bad as him.

Heartless, cold, jerk. I had to see this man after being at Covington behavioral for PTSD and depression. He multiple times told many other patients to get out his office, including me. He kept telling us we would get out and then would keep us longer than we needed. Cares only about money. Told me “I would not waste his resources” when I told him I was ready to go home because I did not feel safe in the facility and threatened to add seven more days to my stay. Rude as hell. Doesn’t care about anyone but himself and his bank.

I started with Dr sumner after suffering almost a year with PPD and anxiety. He has been nothing but helpful and understanding of my situation. I’ve never felt rushed by him or his office. I feel safe to open up to him about my life and relationships and I’ve instituted a lot of his advice in my day to day.

He just verbally assaulted me after taking my money because I couldn't afford to come to him every 4-6 weeks. I also couldn't get off work that often. I called and explained it to his staff and he claimed he never got a call from me though his staff told me there was no negotiating anything I wanted. He verbally attacked me then asked if i felt suicidal. Um, not until now!!!!
