Worst Optometrist In Charlotte
Everything you see under this review section is true to a T. Have been a patient since 2019 when I was diagnosed with Keratoconus and I can ultimately say it has been the worst decision I have made for the health of my eyes. Due to his corporate role and plethora of patients with no cap, he is dismissive and outright arrogant. What he says goes and nothing more. No questions which might be beneath him, and certainly not any time for introductions or pleasantries. From start to finish the whole experience is more trying than rewarding. There was even a meeting where I reported I was having major issues with my eyes and he brushed me off and informed me pictures all looked good. Shortly after he tells me he was looking at the wrong year and the pictures actually did seem worse to need to perform. CXL. Due to his contradicting words and having left for college, I was unable to make a proper decision prior to when my condition had worsened greatly.

Bad experience
This doctor has horrible bedside manner. He completed my crosslinking procedure and my vision is worse than ever.

Most arrogant doctor
I took my daughter to this eye doctor. He spent about 5 minutes with us and suggested we go to “Americas Best” because he’s an “eye surgeon” and helping her get contact lenses was beneath him.

Horrible Physician
I’m in disbelief at the care provided by this physician. Very arrogant, rushed through appointment and constantly talked over me. Wow!

I am trusting Dr. Mathys with my vision!
I am surprised by the negative reviews regarding Dr. Mathys' and the office staff's attitudes. I have been to the offices three times and each time the staff was serious and brisk but not rude. Because there are several doctors in the practice, the check-in line can get long so I understand the staff not engaging in small talk and moving people along. Perhaps people are expecting a primarily female staff to be overly accommodating to them which isn't the staffs' jobs. As for Dr. Mathy's. I found him to be personable and he took time to answer my many questions. I will be having surgery so I needed to know every thing and he explained all in detail. Yes, he is confident in his knowledge and his skills but I did not read his attitude as arrogance. I am trusting this doctor and his staff with my vision so definitely will update my review after the surgery. Fingers crossed for a successful surgery and healing!

Not impressed
"New patient....doctor was nice enough.....little time spent....felt very "factory like".....check a box....I have seen her. I was looking for a doctor close to home.....he isn't it. Felt more interest from doctors at the Target locations I have been to prior. I won't be back."

I went to Dr. Kenneth C Mathys for double vision. He was a bit cocky and wouldn't let me talk much. He said I had dry eye sent me to another doctor for scleral lens. I have tried everything from lipo scan, compresses, eye scrubs, new glasses and still had the double vision. I booked and apt. to bring my results and I asked him what I should do and he said I should go to a "anxiety psychiatrist and get on medication". "That he can not help me". I was taken back and insulted by his bedside manner and smugness. I have hope for better results. But certainly not from Dr. Kenneth C Mathys.

Took my family member there for a second opinion regarding keratoconus. I had read the reviews prior to going and they had mentioned arrogance. Sure enough he is arrogant. He also didnt like answering questions. He also rushed through the exam. Well actually his assistant performed the exam. She also said she didnt have the equipment to do everything she needed to do because the condition was advanced. So if you want to be treated rudely by the front desk, see a doctor that has plenty of knowledge about your condition but act as if your bothering him and doesnt want to answer your questions or address concerns, then he is your person. I was really hopeful with all his knowledge, experience and seeming to be a humanitarian this was going to be a no brainer for my family members surgery but now we are back to the search. Good luck.

I visited Dr. Mathys's office in late spring of 2018 for pterygium. As some of the other reviews here have mentioned, the office reception staff was incredibly rude right from the beginning. Condescension, total lack of concern, and when I stated that my insurance was new and I hadn't yet received the card, the woman at the front actually ushered in the next person in line as though it was a foregone conclusion that I wouldn't be able to pay out of pocket (I was, and did). I saw Dr. Mathys af

Dr. Mathys and his surgical staff were phenomenal. Dr. Mathys made my entire experience totally comfortable. The results were beyond my expectations. He was considerate, easy to communicate with, and very informative as to my condition and procedures for solution. I would not hesitate to return to his care.

Dr. Mathys literally saved my life. I am a T1D and had been in the emergency room for 9 hours before they called Dr. Mathys in, in the middle of the night no less and found out that the pressure in my eye was very high, which is bad. Dr. Mathys did emergency surgery on my eye and I was back to normal. Ever since that, Dr. Mathys is the ONLY Ophthalmologist I will allow anywhere near my eyes.

Dr. Mathys is very arrogant and cocky. He also seemed very argumentative with patient. Seemed as he devalued my thoughts and what I was trying to convey to him as they patient. I left feeling as though I needed to get a 2nd opinion.
