Condescending, Coercive “Friend”
I was admitted for a opioid overdose. When I was initially found by family, I told them I had taken another medication, not wanting to admit my addiction. I was in the ICU first and they naturally discovered the truth. I agreed and complied. When I was moved to a regular admission room, Dr. Villoria believed I made a suicide attempt, as that was what my family believed. When I told her the truth, I was not believed. This, despite the ICU finding opioids in my system, as well as a drug test she ordered. Every time she visited she would call me “friend”. It did not feel friendly. I continued to tell the truth, so she decided I was unable to leave the hospital. She then threatened me with a 302 if I did not “voluntarily agree” to admission to a mental facility of her choosing. This is coercion. My family was consistently lied to by her as well as the nurses. I feel shame for what I did, but that doesn’t mean I deserved to be treated with hostility and resentment.
