Someone Who Truly Cared
When I was younger, I was forced into therapy because of a situation beyond my control. I wasn’t the problem, but I was still dragged to a series of professionals, and by the time I met Karen, I was angry and resentful. I felt like I was being punished for someone else’s issues. But Karen—she was different. She not only allowed me to kick off my shoes and be myself but she validated my feelings, showed genuine care, and really listened. Her compassion and understanding made all the difference. I don’t do regular therapy anymore, but when I feel the need, Karen is my first thought. I don't live in Birmingham anymore but I’d gladly drive 90 miles or more to meet with her.

There should be an option for 0 stars. Dr. Callahan shouldn’t have a license, let alone “care” for children. How Grandview can continue to let her represent their hospital is beyond me.After our terrible experience, we decided to research Dr. Callahan & saw all the terrible, traumatic reviews here. If we would have known this ahead of time we would have NEVER brought her to Grandview. This was the hardest thing my family, & my poor sister, had ever been through, & the staff was not compassionate to the situation in any way. My sisters stay at Grandview traumatized her more than going through the actual psychosis itself.

Avoid at all Costs
Dr. Callahan was my psychiatrist during my stay at Grandview several years ago. She seemed to not acknowledge my medical history, including past mental health diagnoses, and was overall dismissive. When I told her what several of my previous therapists and psychiatrists believed I had, she informed me that I could not have that disorder because I did not have an adequate history of self-harm or suicide attempts.

Dr Callahan has helped me immensely after only 2 visits. My anxiety has drastically decreased not just from medication, but from listening to her insightful comments. She adjusted my sleep meds and at last I’m getting sleep at night. I did prepare for our sessions which is essential for getting the most out of any consultation. I honestly have only positive things to say about Dr Callahan and the efficiency of her staff.

Do not see this doctor. My first (and only visit) she loaded me up on meds. I had a horrible reaction to one of the meds and left multiple messages .. she hasn’t returned one. They also cancel appointments via text and you have to call to reschedule. Don’t settle for a dr because they have availability. Take time and research.

Extremely rude and incompetent is being kind. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THIS joke of a doctor. She caused our son extreme trauma by stopping his antipsychotic medication without weaning. Grayson and Dr. Callahan are lucky we did not sue them. She REFUSED to meet with us, his parents. She did not review his chart bc she actually tried to put him on meds that were documented as causing severe side effects in our son. We believe sending our son to this woman and the hospital at which she practices is one of the worst mistakes we’ve ever made. Our son, four years later, still suffers from ptsd because of his time in the hospital with this incompetent woman.

The first time I was scheduled to meet the woman, she was an hour late to my appointment. I have to take off work to be able to go to her so I lost an hour's worth of wages. When I showed up for my appointment, she hadn't even left the hospital yet!!! My second time meeting her she WAS on time, but she screwed up my fill date on a prescription that I need daily in order to function properly. Left 2 messages, finally told she takes 1-2 business days to respond to issues!!

She started seeing our child less than six months ago and has refused to help our child with her severe anxiety and deep deep depression. However, she had no trouble placing our child on clonidine, the BP med, w/o cking our child's bp or heart hx, nor did she have an issue with putting our child on Abilify, an antipsychotic, that is terrible on the body, and she didn't do labs to ck her kidneys or liver. Our child has 1/2 hr with her but is only there 15 min. She doesn't listen to her.TERRIBLE
