Finding a primary care physician is no easy task. Between making sure she is in-network with your insurance and has admitting privileges at hospitals near you that are also in-network, you want to find someone that is personally compatible with your health goals and personality. I asked at the nurses’ station following an Urgent Care visit, if any of the providers could recommend someone. The Nurse Practitioner that treated me that day suggested her physician to me. I followed up with Dr. Julia Bielat. Dr. Bielat is a lovely, kind human and the support staff at the clinic were just as great. Many times physicians and staff are dismissive and callous, so this was a nice change of pace. During my physical we discussed my current vitamins/medicines and Dr. Bielat clued in on a very high dosage of a vitamin that I was taking. I was experiencing toxicity. She had me stop taking the vitamin right away and in a couple of months I was back in the normal range.

Dr. Bielat is the best doctor I have ever had. She has an excellent bedside manner and is very thorough with her examine, testing and diagnosis. She takes time to answer my questions and explains everything. I have referred her on many occasions, and have total trust in her with my life. Northwestern is very lucky to have her on their team.

In an age where physicians are all too quick to get in and out of your exam room, Dr. Bielat is truly a throwback to "old time" medicine. She listens more and better than any doctor I have ever seen, is very thorough and truly cares about the patient's overall well being.

Dr Bielat is honestly the worst GP I've ever had. She is transphobic and openly so, having made transphobic remarks directly to my face, misgendering me after repeatedly being corrected, etc. on top of that, Dr. Bielat doesn't actually care about the wellbeing of her patients with mental illnesses. Her interests are "anxiety"? Please. She throws medication at you and demands you continue to see her in office every one to two weeks or will not refill said medication. Who does that?

I have been seeing Dr. Bielat for less than a year, but am happy I have her as my Primary Care Physician now. During my appointments with her she has never seemed rushed, is a good listener, and has a great bedside manner. She is Board Certified, has fine academic credentials, and communicates very well. She is prompt with her responses to my MyChart messages, and her staff is great too. I highly recommend her to those looking for a compassionate PCP.
