Ended up in ICU because he dropped me as a patient
I did a craniotomy with Dr. Yu. He is, by far, the meanest doctor I've ever met. He wrongly prescribed the amount of steroids I needed after my brain surgery, and discharged me with zero pain control. Nothing. After he sliced open my head. When I called his office about both the steroids and the pain control, I was told he had dropped me as a patient. I didn't even get one follow-up with him. I ended up in the ICU as a result of all of this due to post-surgical complications. He still wouldn't take me back as a patient after my ICU visit, and his team told me I had to go to the emergency room with my issues. They still didn't give me appropriate medication. I ended up back in the ER at least five times as a result of the whole situation. It was incredibly traumatizing. The only reason I'm giving him 2 stars instead of 1 is because it's been some time since my surgery, and I have far fewer side effects than most people have after this kind of surgery.

Brilliant and skillful surgeon
My family and I would like to express our deep appreciation to a skillful surgeon and a kind person, Dr John Yu. I met him at Cedar’s after having unsuccessful surgery somewhere else. My condition was very bleak and serious. Dr Yu, Dr Rudnick and their team immediately assessed situation and suggested to perform another surgery. And this time it was a great result. He saved my life and my family, friends and I are very grateful for that. I wanted to share that with patients, who are looking for a brain surgeon with brilliant skills and compassion.

I’ve had three (!) craniotomies with Dr. Yu. The first two for a schwannoma brain tumor. I had some complications along the way because it was a very complicated removal but four years later I am totally stable and expected to stay that way. Three months after my tumor stabilized another mass was detected was unrelated stage IV cancer. Surprise! Dr. Yu called his buddy who is one of the foremost authorities in the field who began treating me. I started immunotherapy and needed a third crainiotomy to remove the met. And here I am still alive, driving, and taking care of my family. I’ve had a lot of top notch care at Cedars and I am very very grateful.

BAD: I had a seizure at work in 2007. It was diagnosed as Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Even after surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy it returns very quickly. The average life span: 14 months! GOOD: My surgeon at Cedars-Sinai is Dr John S. Yu. He offered me a role in IMUC. The study combines your tumor cells with your white blood cells and they are injected back into you. BETTER: I am alive nearly 10 years later. My future is dedicated to Dr Yu and his skills as a surgeon and as a friend.
