Dr. John Welander, MD

Dr Welander performed my emergency colon resection. During pre-op his nurses were discussing how “sad” my case was within my ear shot. Following surgery Dr Welander, who is a surgeon, not an oncologist, informed my husband that he’d seen cancer like mine and that the “good news is she’ll never need another surgery.” The care I received at the hospital was worse than sub-par and Dr Welander seemed not to care when I expressed this to him. By my two week follow-up I was already having problems with my colostomy and Dr Welander just shrugged it off. On the positive side, the nurse in his office was warm, caring, knowledgeable, and professional. My stoma continued to deteriorate and cause me extreme pain, negatively impacting my quality of life, so I chose to move to a surgeon at UNMC who performed a revision. Despite Dr Welander’s grim predictions, I am now a year out from my cancer diagnosis and I feel great and am going strong.

Dr. Welander is absolutely the best. He made me feel very comfortable, taking the time to explain my surgery and what to expect afterwards. He is a very good surgeon and I would highly recommend him to everyone. I had a very good experience with him.

Explained everything that would happen in a non threatening way and easy to understand. Very personable and left me with a positive feeling of his ability.
