Very slow response
The office is very slow to respond to refills. My pharmacy sent multiple requests, and I messaged as well. Since my son has been on the same medication regimen for years, refilling the prescription should have been easy. The staff is amiable but not empowered; the office would probably benefit from a P.A. to take over medication issues.

Helped me get on medication that helped my epilepsy without having to sacrifice my day to day life because of side effects. Listens to what I have to say and what my family has to say. Anyone who has epilepsy I hope you get to be his patient and if not find a doctor of his ilk.

  • Listened & answered questions

Dr. Stern is a knowledgeable and sensitive specialist, one of the best in his team of neurologists. I have been working with him at UCLA as a patient for 3 years and my seizure activity has reduced considerably. We have tried numerous medications and I am now taking Lyrica which has been quite successful in controlling my epilepsy. Dr. Stern is always available to consult by phone and prescribe medications when needed.

I am very conflicted about the care that I received by Dr. John Stern twenty years ago. I believe he had good intentions, but I had just suffered a brain injury and the start of my epilepsy as a result of medical negligence from the Air Force while pregnant, had been abused and was in a custody dispute with my abuser. I have questions that I need answered and cannot get them even if I schedule a new patient appointment. I think he definitely knows his field, but in hindsight...I wish he wouldn’t have done what he did to me. There were other ways that he could’ve protected me.

A previous 6 yr patient, I was changing medications that he prescribed, and my seizures started increasing from 1 a day to up to 30. I tried getting ahold of him during this period of time (1 month) and he would not respond with instructions on what to do. I eventually was having so many seizures that I went to the ER and am now at another hospital. His lack of communication makes it impossible to really have faith and trust in a doctor to help you with a serious medical condition like epilepsy.
