Traumatized to say the least
I lost my memory because of this doctor. Was healthy as could be before I met him. Beyond traumatized from my birthing experience. Gave me a mixture of medications, stopped my contractions (which were happening every 3 mins before he did what he did) and sent me home for false labor where I woke up not even knowing I was even pregnant! I was rushed back to st Charles and then I transferred to stonybrook. I developed a stutter for months, couldnt remember anything for months and July 1,2,3rd are still a complete blur. Stay away.

No Compassion for Someone with Anxiety
I had a positive pregnancy test and then a negative one. They wouldn't let my husband in the room and said they'd get him after the exam portion. I explained that I have anxiety because of a previous miscarriage when I was living elsewhere, not in his care. He was very dismissive and didn't listen to my history. He told me to come off my medication and asked me "why are you on it? Life? You can't come off of it?" I was trying to explain that I DID come off my antidepressant and then had a miscarriage at 12 weeks prior. I went back on the medicine when pregnant with my son for my mental health. He kept cutting me off and said "we'll get to that." Then he did my internal exam. I tried to explain again and he told me "stop talking during the exam". He told me to come back for bloodwork to see if I was pregnant because the results weren't clear. I was visibly upset. They never got my husband. He told me that the blood lab lady was staying late and I better thank her. I switched OB offices.

Dr. Petraco is friendly and thorough. I never felt rushed and always understood the treatment he administered. He helped diagnose my endometriosis, which my previous gynecologists had written off as normal. He's an excellent doctor!

Dr petraco performed an emergency c-section when I had my first child 2.5 years ago. I was in a lot of pain even with pain meds until the 6 weeks postpartum visit. When I asked Dr. Petraco whether it is normal that I am still in so much pain, he said it is nothing unexpected. The sharp pains finally subsided after 3 months but I kept having pains when I sneezed the wrong way a year later. I had a second emergency c section by a different dr recently and only minor pain after the first week.

I'm the type of woman that usually picks another woman to be my gynecologist but I have to say I have never felt as comfortable as I did with DR Petraco. He was open to questions and expressed interest in my situation. He spends extra time with his patients & that's a plus for me since I usually felt like I was being rushed out of the exam room. Thanks!
