Three months post surgery-Very pleased!
I chose Dr Long for cosmetic eyelid surgery. (June 2024) I have a high level of confidence in his training and experience but I was most impressed with his personable manner. He takes time to answer any questions you may have and explains the procedure and healing process in detail. I’ve always thought my eyes were my best feature, and now they look more like they did a few years ago. In addition to my husbands compliments, friends who knew and didn’t know about the surgery have commented on my younger appearance. I would highly recommend Dr. Long as a surgeon.

by far the worst doctor in practice.
I feel like to be a doctor, you take a vow to be respectful, compassionate, and always hear your patients out no matter the circumstances and Dr. Long here, is nothing of the sorts. From the moment walking through those doors his immediate arrogance and coldness entered the room, his first choice was to make a direct insult about something completely off the cuff, and not the reason for the visit. His immediate choice to not make that connection with a new patient off the bat proves more than enough that his skills to be a doctor are clearly lacking. By the end of the visit, medicine was called in, backward hand questions were given from Dr. Popeye, and a confused patient. Please don't make the mistake I made in trusting this weird man to examine my eyes.

He does not listen to patients. My surgery failed. He refused to admit it. He doesn’t care if you are in pain. He has a god complex. He may have done wonderful things for others. I’m sure he has had many successful surgeries, but listen to patients because that is not always the case. He is human, bodies are different, and he needs to listen when a patient says there is something wrong instead of denying it! If a surgery fails, it’s not necessarily the doctor’s fault, but talking down to patients and ignoring them is!

unprofessional and dismissive
I have seen many specialists throughout my life and Dr. Long easily has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever encountered. His conduct during my time with him was unprofessional, dismissive and rude. He might be a great surgeon, and let me assure you that he will absolutely not miss an opportunity to tell you that he is in fact a great plastic surgeon, but he misses the mark entirely on basic human decency. He didn't display even the most basic professional qualities I expect from a doctor. He doesn't introduce himself upon meeting. He dismissed the concerns of other referring physicians and myself. He didn't adequately answer my questions. He didn't listen to me. He interrupts. You might only care about his performance as a surgeon, but in my opinion, if I can't trust you listen to me and if I can't trust you to treat people with decency and professionalism, then I cannot entrust my body or care to you. Under no circumstance would I recommend Dr. Long.

For complex issues
My eye was removed in Austin, TX, in 2012. I met Dr. Long in Dec. 2022, after moving to Birmingham and being told I had a red place on my sclera, underneath my prosthesis. After 20+ surgeries, I did not want another one. However, Dr. Long agreed to treat me. Soon a hole had formed requiring surgery. In March, he removed a lot of debris and hardware from many prior surgeries, including a scleral buckle which had been placed during five retinal detachments. Dr. Long seemed determined to put an end to my chronic inflammation and more than a few infections after evisceration of my eye, preserving as much movement as possible. I am grateful that he accepted me as a patient. I highly recommend Dr. Long, especially for very complex issues. I appreciate his work ethic and determination to bring this saga to a close. I have no reservations in recommending him. I have been treated by 6 other ophthalmologists in Birmingham and 4 in Austin, TX.

By far the rudest most arrogant doctor I have deal
Dr. Long performed eyelid surgery on me twice. The second time was to correct the first time. Both times he spent bragging on how perfect his work was. I had to speak to him between his smart remarks to get him to look at those so called perfect lids. He finally admitted that they was not perfect and needed a touch up he said. He performed the touch up and one of my lids are the same. I am going to have to get that one done again by someone else. I am very disappointed because I was already afraid to get them done, and out of hard earned money. I still have threading in my lids that did not resolve after a year. Believe it when others say he is rude because he is very very rude.

The rudest doctor in town
Dr. Long is a competent surgeon and easily the rudest person I've ever met. Over the course of four appointments (pre-op consult, operation day, and 2 follow-ups), he laughed at me, interrupted me every time I tried to talk, and dismissed any concern I tried to bring up. He spent the two follow up appointments patting himself on the back about how "perfect" his work was, while ignoring the two concerns I tried to bring up. He also dismissed my post-operative pain (abnormal for the surgery I had) as "worry." He told me several times that I was "anxious" about my surgery and used that as an excuse to not answer my questions, despite the fact that I never once expressed any anxiety about the procedure. The only reason I decided to do the surgery is because I was losing my health insurance and wanted to get the procedure done. I'm mostly, but not entirely, satisfied with my results. If you want a competent but deeply unpleasant surgeon, then go for it, I guess. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Dr Long performed a Ptosis repair on my right eye and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results! Not only is my eye perfect now, Dr Long and his wonderful staff took the best care of me. I felt so comfortable in his office. The wait was short but when I saw him I felt like he spent a lot of time with me. He made me feel at ease during the procedure which was virtually pain free. I have had amazing results and I couldn’t be more grateful! Thank you Dr Long! You are the best!!! Great personality and an excellent doctor, I wouldn’t go to anyone else. Also a great staff, so kind and caring!

Dr. Long performed an upper eye lift and it looks amazing. Such a noticeable difference without any clue I had anything done. I’ve been in the medical profession for over 20 years and hands down he has an outstanding bedside manner, a very professional office staff, and I would recommend anyone considering reconstructive or cosmetic eye surgery to not proceed until having a consultation with Dr. Long. Thank you for taking such care before, during, and after the procedure.

My eyelids were so bad they were affecting my peripheral vision. I was afraid the surgery would leave me with that perpetually surprised look. But NO. They look very natural and I still look like myself, just a lot better. There was minimal discomfort during and after the procedure. I could not be happier. THANK YOU, Dr Long!

My eyelids had gotten so bad I was unable to see any more without holding my eyebrows up to get my eyelids out of my line of sight. I was very hesitant about having any kind of plastic surgery performed and had put it off for more years than I should have. Dr. Long did a blepharoplasty on both eyes and they look great! I can see now and I am beyond thankful for that! His staff was courteous and very helpful with appointments and scheduling surgery. They took care of it all and I didn't have to do anything. Dr. Long was great about answering any of my questions. He LISTENED to me and my wants and don't wants. He was very kind with a wonderful beside manner. I don't really care about a doctor's bedside manner as long as the results are good, but it was a plus that Dr. Long did have a good bed side manner. Dr. Long did a wonderful job on both my eyes. I could not possibly be any happier with the results. It wasn't too much or not enough....it was just right!

I was so nervous about having eye surgery but Dr. Long "talked me off the ledge" and I am so glad he did. The procedure went without a hitch and the results were fantastic. My eyes feel better than they have in months and they will only get better.

I've never been as pleased with a doctor or any previous surgeries as I am with Dr. Long and his work. He performed surgery hon both of my upper eyelids. My eyelids were drooping so much I literlally had a small slit left in both eyes. I looked older, tired and unhealthy. He also told me I had Ptosis. He did an outstanding job. Dr. Long was very patient with my questions and concerns. I've been told I look great. He and his entire staff have been excellent. He is the best! ! !
