Dr. John Herzog, DO

Dr Herzog expertly performed multilevel lumbar fusion and multilevel cervical fusion surgeries on me. I highly recommend him.

I have had several sugeries with Dr. Herzog. He and his staff are wonderful. I would highly recommand his office. I had instant relief in my back and neck after surgeries.

If you want to function after surgery, Don't go this office. They made me wait a year to have my surgery & they take no responsibility for anything. In a hospital setting he's great. Talked to my family by phone with respect. His office appt comes around and it's my fault. My nerve damage is because of COVID. Never mind the fact they left blood & spinal fluid in spine & neck for a year. 140 cc was drained out my neck during & post surgery. Always have someone present with this Dr. Always write down every conversation you have with him and his staff. If a Dr doesn't know how to taper someone off a medication, They have business prescribing it. He's spent less than 15mins with me since surgery.. he's rude, His staff is rude. Doesn't bother answering questions & if you make any indication you have pain, He'll make "You" look like the problem. Not ok with an office who plays Russian Roulette with my life or health. I'll never go back to that office. One of the most narcissistic drs ever!

This Dr. has a very forceful personality, and scared me into an extensive anterior/posterior cerival spinal surgery without explaining to me the risks involved. When I did ask questions, he became rushed, and ended the telehealth appointment. Six months after surgery, I was not recovering well and my symptoms were not addressed. It took 15 months after surgery to get an appointment with the Dr again. during this appointment he interupted me repeatedly and acknowledged that my continued muscle spasms, pain and swelling were due to the hardware used in surgery. He explained " sometimes small women with thin muscles are irritated by the screws." This risk was never explained to me ahead of time and could have been diagnosed/explained to me much sooner. The after care treatment was abysmal and the Dr, instead of taking responsibilty simply said "I'm busy, I'm in surgery." I would recommend having another person present for appointments with this dr, to counter his forceful demeanor.

Dr. Herzog is amazing! After 2 years of constant pain in my lower back I am pain free. Excellent staff and wonderful care from everyone involved. Thank you for helping me to return to a more normal life.

I had herniated disc L5S1 for 3 months and I was in extreme pain 24 hours a day. No other doctor was really helping me until I met with Dr. Herzog and he performed discectomy/laminectomy. I had immediate pain relief!!! Both him and his staff were absolutely amazing! I would recommend him to everyone with back/ sciatic pain!!!

I would have to say that my experience with spinal fusion has been overall a good one. I am on month four after the surgery and my lower back pain and leg pain is significantly better. Dr. J. Herzog and his team are excellent and they all have been extremely helpful every step of the way. Saratoga hospital were also very professional and helpful in my road towards recovery. I do have other spine and neck issues that were founded before this surgery and I will not hesitate to have Dr. Herzog and his team be the ones to help me in the treatment and/or surgeries for these also. Thank you Saratoga Spine and Dr. Herzog for everything. I really feel as I am finally getting my life and quality of life back again.

I have never dealt with a more unprofessional office. Numerous issues from lost MRI’s & forgotten insurance approvals to being farmed out to pain management for 4 months, which ignored my real issue. And this issue was on the MRI I gave them before my first appt, if only they had actually read it as I had requested. It was four months with Saratoga Spine before I saw Dr. Herzog, who, told me if I had breaks as he suspected based on shadows he saw on the MRI that I would need a spinal fusion to repair it. A CT confirmed the bilateral break and when I saw Herzog again, he was cold, arrogant, dismissive, rude; he told me it was non-essential surgery, that I was rushing into surgery, & that I should just have another injection. I left there and never went back. I don’t understand how this office is so dysfunctional. It certainly presents differently. Luckily I found Dr Shen in Latham and within 28 days, he had scheduled and performed my laparoscopic surgery. DO NOT GO TO SARATOGA SPINE

Doctor Herzog should have a much higher rating. My wife was in back pain for 17 years do to a car accident. She now has a life. She can ride her horse again do gardening and all sorts of things she couldn't do before. Yes all patients heal differently and take to surgery different. But my wife is proff in the pudding. She followed all doctors orders and recommendations. Now she is doing awesome all because of Mr Dr Herzog.

Dr Herzog has done 2 of my back surgeries and all went well. Very good doctor cares for his patients and listens to what I had to say. Does not best around the bush tells you like it is and no surprises.

At 66 years old, I sustained a complete vertebral fracture resulting from a fall. Dr. Herzog performed the surgical repair that involved a bone graft, plates and screws. He and his staff were extremely competent, professional and personable. I am not able to express my gratitude for the excellent care, compassion, and level of expertise that I experienced throughout my hospitalization and follow-up care at his office. Three months after my surgery, I was hiking in Ecuador and feel great!

I had almost given up hope of ever being pain free, but Dr. Herzog was able to perform surgery that finally relieved all my pain. I would highly recommend him to others and I have.

I had a Laminectomy and spinal fusion in December and I am so pleased with the results. I am now able to stand for over ten minutes and walk without pain in my legs. I stood for over one hour cutting vegetables for soup a few weeks ago and was not able to do that prior to the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Herzog.

Dr. Herzog is a very straight forward and honest Docter. He always has the patients best interest and health in mind. He is going to be doing a second surgery soon. I trust him completely. I have and will keep recommending him to people in need.

I highly recommend Dr. Herzog. Because of the urgency of my surgery, he scheduled it after office hours and gave up an evening with his family. His competent staff arranged everything in two days. I am doing well after surgery thanks to Dr. Herzog.

He is absolutely wonderful. He will be my surgeon for life, can not say enough about how I was treated and he found out right away what the problem was. I owe him my gratitude and I would HIGHLY recommend him.

Dr. Herzog performed a spinal fusion on my lower back in early May 2017 and for the first time in over 35 years I am pain free. Great surgeon, great staff, great results

Dr Herzog is excellent at what he does, so are his physician assistants. But his front office Girl Val, very very rude... I am surprised that Dr Herzog would allow her to be the way she is. Very unpleasant and seems not to like her job.

Dr. Herzog is an excellent doctor but has little to no bedside manor. He spoke with his PA about me, in front of me, but barely spoke to me directly at all. His PA is very knowledgeable and is obviously there to fill in for Dr. Horzog's shortcomings. I ended up not needing surgery and was able to heal with the help of a pain doctor and PT. Dr Herzog only takes interest in you if you're an interesting medical case. If you want a dr that talks to you and cares about you as a person, not him.

He and his PA were wonderful. I went for a second opinion with him. They figured out where my pain was and what it was even though I was seeing another ortho doctor for months without relief. And he was completely correct!! They were very friendly and really took time and listened to what I had to say.
