Still tramatized by his behavior towards me
I had just had a posterior cervical laminectomy with fusion. I was in the hospital and he was assigned to be my pain management doctor. I had never met him before and was expecting my surgeon would be taking care of me. He made some rude judgmental comments about things in my chart and I felt very ill at ease with him. This was in 2019 and won't have surgery at Long Beach memorial hospital again in fear that he'll be there.

Pain management
Dr Gurskis cared for my mother in 1992. She was suffering from severe osteoporosis with multiple fractures: would break a rib with a cough. He consulted and got her pain controled well for over two years until her death. He saw her at Long Beach Memorial and set up a treatment plan that we took to her long term nursing home in Reno, Nevada. She had a good life even with her pain and I believe his assessment and care plan extended her life for over a year! She was able see her many students that she had taught for six decades and her friends as well. I recently had an urgent spinal surgery and he consulted in my post operative pain management. He still is one of the best and takes a sincere interest in managing your pain. It has been almost 22 years and he is the top of his field. I recommend him absolutely!

Strange and unusual
My Mother was in the hospital recently. In severe pain. This doctor made VERY inappropriate comments. She is 84 and has severe arthritis in her spine. The doctor asked her “who caused this pain, the mailman, your husband, your father…?” It was just very bizarre. Creepy.

Smart Doctor
Dr. Gurskis is very knowledgeable about pain management and listened intently. I appreciate his candid demeaner and his suggestions on how to improve my life choices with the goal to improve my pain management. Some may find that offensive, but why go to the doctors if you don't want his/her opinions or suggestions. It's more than just about the meds.

Dr Gurskis talks bad about every other Dr. he talks like he knows better than other Dr’s, even in other fields. He is extremely rude. He has never met my daughter, but talked horribly about her. I saw him in the hospital. One of the nurses overheard the way he spoke to me and told me that’s how he is. Awful

Dr. Gurskis is one of the kindest doctors I have ever gone to. He is thorough, he listens, he offers his opinions and he always takes your phone calls, or calls you back before the end of the day. His nurse(s) are the best. I will refer him to anyone I know who has issues that can be helped with pain management. Nancy Williamson

Dr. Gurskis is very knowledgeable and concerned with managing pain and treating you as an individual. He is very honest with side effects and offers multiple solutions. He runs extremely behind but his personal care is worth it. The lady who run the office are awesome! You can always call to see if he is on schedule or enjoy the great movies they always show in the waiting room.

This physician inappropriately holds you captive as an audience to espouse his political frustrations prior to addressing your medical concerns. I've tolerated this in light of the fact that I thought he was possibly lonely and needed additional time with his patients to meet his lack of social relationships. Nonetheless this type of bedside manner is highly inappropriate and in my opinion is malpractice at it's best. He is bigoted in his views, culturally insensitive and misogynistic.
