Hero!
Displaced my hip and ER doctors couldn't get it back in. Dr. Dunleavy arrived and got it in and performed revision hip surgery about 2 weeks later. 8 weeks after that, I'm playing all my favorite sports again!

Hip replacement
The replacement went better than expected. This was my second hip replacement and this procedure was far better than my first. I am up and doing normal activities in half the time compared to thee first one. Extremely delighted.

Extremely disappointed
I was not given the treatment I needed and suffered needlessly in extreme pain. Continual calls to his secretary were ignored. It was very clear that, despite a serious surgery performed by Dr. Dunleavey, I was unimportant and so was the state of my health and comfort. It was disgraceul to be treated like this and I will never be returning to see him. However, Dunleavey does not reflect everyone in this group. I have seen other orthopedists and PAs who were great surgeons, PAs and fine people. Orthopedists are not known for time devoted to patient conversation, but to be treated so rudely by Dr. Dunlevavey was egregious behavior and highly unprofessional. I wish someone had been in the room with me to witness his words and behavior really. His narcissism gets in the way of taking care of anyone but himself. Avoid.

Avoid if possible.
My wife broke her leg and the Emergency Department gave her the name of Dr. Dunleavy for treatment. She was in horrific pain, we went to the office and she completed all the paperwork. He looked at our insurance and said 'I told the Emergency Room not to send me people with your insurance'. No concern for her condition, no advice on how her leg would be fixed, just left the room.

Excellent!
Contrary to several of the reviewers, I’ve found Dr Dunleavy to be the finest of doctors. He’s done total knee replacements on both of my knees, and both procedures at Danbury Hospital. No doctor these days has the time to sit and chit chat but Dr Dunleavy certainly answered all my questions in a very professional manner but in terms understandable to a lay person.

Hip replacement restored my mobility
Unbeknownst to me, the soft tissue injury that I thought had occurred 2 years ago was actually a broken hip. Dr. Dunleavy performed a hip replacement in that involved computed tomography--guided robotic placement of the implant. It took persistent effort, but at 75 years of age, I was able to walk outside for a mile by Labor Day, after surgery in June. Dr. Dunleavy explained the surgical procedure clearly and was responsive when I had questions. I highly recommend him and the beautifully run Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center to anyone who is in need of a hip or knee replacement.

Gave my 93 year old mom two brand new kneeds
Dr Dunleavey is obviously very busy. There is no time for extended small talk. But as far as being thorough and caring he did an amazing jo. My 93 year old Mom now has 2 brand new knees and he did such a great job. I highly recommend his work. He is not a therapist so get ready for his quickness!. He is all business. I liked that!

This is an update for me. I had both hips replaced with Dr. Dunleavy, three years ago for one and two years ago the other, and cannot say enough about how the surgeries and the surgeon have changed my life. I am able to do just about anything I want with NO pain or discomfort, and have excellent flexibility and range of motion in both hips. Dr. Dunleavy is caring, totally professional and I have whole heartedly recommended him to all my friends. There is nothing I can think of that would have improved both experiences and I completely and unreservedly recommend him to anyone needing hip replacements. Thank you Dr. Dunleavy!

Would not recommend this guy to anybody. Agree with what other posters said above about feeling rushed and felt like I was keeping him from a golf tournament or something. He did take the fluid out, and suggested steroids and such but when I spoke to him about anti inflammatory foods he said well when you find that doesn't work you can use the prescription. I feel like a bit of a fool for going to him on a rec, and that foolishness cost me a pretty penny.

Dr John Dunleavy performed hip replacement surgery Sept 7, 2018 in Danbury Hospital I was out of bed and walking same day and I was released to go home in two days to continue my recovery. Dr Dunleavy was very thorough on telling my wife and I exactly what he was going to do and what complication there could be. He came out and explain everything to my wife following the surgery. I wish there was more Dr John Dunleavys in this world! Today is two week post op, I am walking over 1/2 mile a day.

I am very pleased with the care I received from Dr. Dunleavy. He had a great bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable and is great at surgery! My diagnosis and care was excellent! I was extremely happy with my surgery and post operative care. All my questions were answered at every visit. He went into great detail and made me feel comfortable with knowing what to do when I went home. I felt very prepared for my surgery and knew exactly what to expect post operative. After my son had go to Dr. Dunleavy for a knee injury and received excellent care , he was the only doctor I would consider going to for my knees. For many years I was in pain with my knees and could barely do daily activities or walk up the stairs. After having both knees replaced at the same time, I am finally pain free and can do my daily activities and walk up and down stairs with ease. Dr,. Dunleavy treated me with concern, care and respect. I would and do recommend him.

I saw Dr Dunleavy because of a slip and fall. Because of his negligence I have a permanent disability. My hamstring is permanently severed and cannot be reconnected because he put me off. The tissue is dead and had he taken me seriously originally I could have had surgery to reattach my hamstring .

Horrible experience -- The dr spent about 5 total minutes with me. Went in for a muscle complaint and dr decided in a 30 second review of x-rays and MRI that I needed my hip replaced. Dr made pronouncement and then left. Ridiculous treatment. I've had longer consultations with hardware guy. Saw 2nd dr who treated my condition and said my hip had some arthritis but could easily be managed through exercise and aspirin.

I would not recommend Dr. Dunleavy or this office to my worst enemy. It is all about money here and has a secretarial staff that couldn't care less. Will not be treated like this by a physician--no less-ever again.

He showed me my x-ray results and explained my condition and gave me options. Thank you Dr. Dunleavy ! Mike C. Danbury Ct.
