Pushed Unnecessary Surgery
Dr. Draus pushed for an extremely painful, risky operation (Nuss procedure) even after confirming my daughter's pectus excavatum had NO effect on her heart or lung functions. (The Nuss procedure entails one or more metal bars being inserted through the ribcage to push out the chest wall. It requires an epidural and a week-long hospital stay, and is considered to be more excruciating with age.) We were there for a follow-up appointment (after CT chest scan, cardiogram, and pulmonary function testing), and Dr. Draus had a resident come in to try to book the surgery before he himself even entered the room to go over the results. (Again, this is after tests confirmed her condition is purely a cosmetic concern.) Her Haller index measurement (depth) surpassed the threshold for full insurance coverage, so he was more than happy to take the money. This is such a serious, painful surgery that some people don't even go through with it when there IS an impact on heart and lung function. Awful.
