Don't waste your time
Dr. Chico does not listen to or address concerns. He gives misinformation and lacks knowledge in care, treatments, and disease. This doctor has contradicted himself in every visit I have had with him and frankly makes no sense. Kaiser has much better primary care doctors and I am glad I decided to switch.

Would rate a zero if it was an option
I had a horrible experience with Dr. Chico, he is not my primary and I suggest you leave if he is yours. Not thorough whatsoever. He is scatter-brained at best, negligent at worst. He does bare minimum, he is an example of the type of doctor that supports the poor service and poor quality reputation of Kaiser.

I'm not sure if there are two different Dr. John Chicos in SD, but my experience with Dr Chico (Dr John David Chico with Kaiser) was absolutely the opposite of the other reviews here. Dr. Chico was patient, kind and took time to listen and explain to me my different options. I generally get a bit nervous going to the doctor, as I have had many bad experiences in the past, but the patience and respect Dr. Chico gave to me calmed my fears, and we made an action plan to get to the bottom of my concerns. So thankful for such a positive, helpful experience.

I've been avoiding the doctors since my last visit with Dr. Chico- it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a doctor. He did not listen to my concerns, made me feel stupid for asking questions and made me feel bad for going over the 20 minutes that was allotted for my visit. He talked me into switching over to him as my GP (my original doctor wasn't available at the time), and now its been difficult finding a new doctor. I've been paying out of pocket for tests and visits with a Naturopathic doctor. After running tests (paid out of pocket that I asked him to run and he refused), I have learned of 2 new diagnosis that could have been addressed if he had listened to me.

I was suffering from of shortness of breath/wheezing due to a worsening allergy. Dr. Chico responds by repeatedly bring up a diagnosis pertaining to my mental health, while dismissing my concerns about shortness of breathe/wheezing. If you want an MD to gaslight you about your concerns, he is your man. (KAISER)
