Dr. Buttram is a caring, honest doctor. I went to him after seeing a doctor at UNC, who told me he could do the surgery very quickly & he did. The other guy want to fuse 3 disc-he fused only one because that’s all I needed. Immediately after the surgery, I felt 100% back to myself again. You won’t be sorry. He was recommended by the PT guy who told me he was good. He is great.

I sought Dr. Buttram as a second opinion for a L4/5 herniation and nerve root impingement. My left leg was weak and I couldn't walk more than a few feet without hours of pain and recovery. From the moment I entered the office I felt welcomed and cared for, from the front office staff, RNs, PA, to the schedulers. Dr. Buttram's bedside manner is excellent. He is confident in what he does. In addition, once we agreed to move forward with a procedure I was scheduled and operated on within two weeks. From the moment I woke up the pain I had been suffering with for months was gone. I am 1 month out from procedure and the recovery is going beautifully. You can tell Dr. Buttram has done a lot of these procedures before. 10/10 recommend.

I could not have expected any better care and attention than what I received from Dr. Buttram and others at Rex Neurosurgery and Spine Specialists. The staff was friendly and quick to take care of pre-surgery needs, which included all insurance concerns! Dr. Buttram gives you all options after his assessment of your condition. In other words, he does not push surgery but is honest in order that you can make an informed decision. I chose surgery because I had tried all non-surgical means and still had not improved. He had patience and a way to ease my apprehension to my first major surgery and took all the time needed to answer any and all (even trivial) questions that arose from my anxiety. He visually showed me (pre-surgery) the process of lumbar fusion and invited me to call with any other concerns or questions. His skill with neurosurgery is superb! All of the crippling pain I had before surgery is gone! There is no hesitation from me in recommending Rex Neurosurgery for your care!

Dr. Buttram is an expert neurosurgeon of high integrity with impeccable attention to detail plus an incredible bedside manner. He is thorough, transparent, compassionate, and highly skilled. He was patient with my exhaustive questions and preemptively took measures to ensure that I could recover without extreme nausea, which has been an issue for me in the past. This was the first surgery I ever had where my surgeon listened to these concerns and as a result, I had zero issues after surgery and actually went home days earlier.

I came to Dr Buttram the summer of 2019 with loss of feeling in fingers of both hands, headaches and neck pain. I have had 3 previous cervical spine surgeries with some success but I also broke some hardware in my neck as well. Most surgeons wouldn't consider helping me as just to many risks, history of blood clots etc... But Dr Buttram after looking at my images said he would help me. Had my surgery Oct 31st and even though it was more extensive than maybe previously thought he addressed all the levels. Now 2 1/2 months later I feel so much better feeling in my fingers & headaches gone and very little neck pain so I cant thank Dr Buttram enough also his staff Jessica his PA and as well as Pam they are the best ……. Dr. Buttram did not actually treat me, but if I needed a Doctor to relieve my pain...it would be him. I know him professionally and his methodical approach at care is like no other. If you need pain relief, look no further...Dr. Buttram is the right medical professional!

If you need any surgery of the spine, look no further than Dr. Buttram! Mine was needed as a result of a hierniated disc in my L5. I had endured excruciating pain for 3 months before surgery. I'm SO glad I went through with the decision to operate. I can't speak enough high praise for him, his nurse PAM, disability coordinator Dorvetta, benefits coordinator Joy and Dr. Dan!!! Thank you for the excellent care, superior communication and instructions you sent home. They even stress, call anytime.

I highly recommend Dr Buttram. I never had any intentions of having spine fusion surgery, but the pain of a compressed sciatic nerve and scoliosis had left me with constant pain. It has been 11 weeks since back surgery, and I felt relief from the decompressed nerve immediately. I am so glad I decided to have the surgery. Dr. Buttram is very knowledgeable in his field of medicine, and I recommend him with confidence.

I had suffered in a lot of pain for 6 years from a herniated disc in my lower back. I could not work due to severe sciatica. I am so thankful I found Dr. Buttram. Dr Buttram did a lower back decompression that immediately relieved the persistent pain and numbness in my legs just as he promised. He and his staff couldn't have been nicer, more professional or more helpful.

He's just the best!! He cares about you as a patient..I'm so grateful he was on call the day I went to the ER with sciatic nerve pain..he was my savior April 3,2016. After I ruptured a disc in two places and landed in the ER at Rex, Dr. Buttram performed a laminectomy. He fully explained the situation pre- and post-op. I followed his post-op instructions to the letter and was virtually pain-free from the time I was released from the hospital. Dr. Buttram is an excellent neurosurgeon. He and his staff have excellent bedside manner and took the time to answer all of my many questions. I recommend Dr. Buttram in the most positive terms.
