Dr. Johanna Byrd, MD

It’s taken me almost three years to be able to actually come forward with my story of this place. Let me tell you on 04-04-2021 I had gone to the L-D in hospital at San Juan and doctor Byrd was the on call doctor.My reason for rushing into the L-D floor at 34 weeks pregnant I thought my water broke turns out I filled my toilet bowl of blood. Rushed to get checked out all she did was a swab didn’t care I told her it wasn’t amniotic fluid but blood and said your water didn’t break go home. She didn’t do an ultrasound or anything didn’t care about me saying I was having pain on my left side and said it’s Braxton hicks those are normal..Two days later I had an ultrasound thankfully so on 04-06-2021 my daughter was born via emergency c-section because MY PLACENTA SEPERATED MORE THAN 25%. Because of her carelessness myself with internal bleeding and my daughters dropping heart rate before the surgery I could have lost my life and my daughters life. Not once did I get an apology from her

I was 17 years old and I ended up having to have an emergency C-section after being induced 10 days early due to doctors orders (I had preeclampsia). I had asked for an ultrasound before and it was declined, had they done the ultrasound they would have known my son was sunny side up. They did not realize this until I was already 9 cm dilated and going through tremendous pain! Dr Thorpe was the one who did my c section and delivered my baby safely... Dr Byrd was on vacation so i definitely feel I was left in the dark.

Dr. Byrd really listened to my needs and concerns and worked with me to choose the best options for my health. She always explained things so I could understand but was also honest about complications or side effects that could arise.
