Horrible bedside manner
I had emergency surgery on my shoulder. I saw orthopedics one day, then in for surgery the next day. First time I met Tenuta was an hour before the scheduled surgery. He couldn’t answer what the plate to be put in my shoulder was made out of or the thickness of it. He just didn’t know. But he said “you have some good questions”. The surgery was delayed because of the OR schedule, and I saw Tenuta pacing down the hall. He looked like he was a toddler having a fit. By the time they wheeled me in, he was on his phone in the corner of the OR. Didn’t say anything to me. The follow up with him was more of the same. He couldn’t answer my simple questions and appointment was rushed. He acted like I was bothering him with my questions and that I was not worth his time.

The most arrogant and unprofessional doctor I've seen in a very long time, I wouldn't recommend Tenuta to anyone. I have been receiving injections for joint pain for years. I am always treated well by my other provider. This man doesn't orient with you or your chart (he was in the wrong chart until the very end of my visit) He is rushed, doesn't answer questions, provides no instruction for after care and is overly rough with a very limited exam and brutal in giving the shots. After two unnecessarily painful knee injections I was laid up for 3 days. He should have NUMBED the knees first and didn't - Go to someone else and Joachim Tenuta this is not active combat medicine in Somalia, Hati or Iraq have some compassion for the Veterans you treat.

Arrogant - ineffective - unprofessional – Aug 03, 2021
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Tenuta?
My greatest regret is trusting Dr. Tenuta with my surgery. I was left with severe nerve imparement and Dr Tenuta appears to have no idea how to treat it. Follow-up visits are several minutes - he may take a superficial look and say he saw improvement, though he has never once taken a measurement to see how my range of motion is. It has not improved, despite his "observations". Often at my visits he will mention he spoke to a colleague who provided him some insights into my condition, if he has to ask for insights shouldn't I be seeing the colleague? I have zero confidence in him. Unfortunately, finding another orthopedic surgeon to take over has proved difficult. Dr Tenuta is a joke, unfortunately I was punchline in this case. DO NOT TRUST HIM.

Cure was worse than the initial injury – Apr 04, 2021

I work in human services and took one of my clients who is cognitively limited to Dr. Tenuta for a broken arm. I sat and waited with my client for 20-30 minutes. I got up to go to the bathroom, and when I got back, my client told me the doctor had already come and gone. I asked him what the doctor looked like, so I could call him back to review his diagnosis... When I found him, he very flatly told me that my client's arm was broken and he needed a sling - no cast. I tried to get more info out of him, but he kept flatly repeating the same exact words over and over again. It was so bizarre. At that point, I was so bewildered I gave up. I went to check out at the front desk and they informed me that my client could make a follow up appointment, but NOT with Dr. Tenuta. I said "Okay, that's fine. *thinking to myself he was rude and short with us anyway* But why no Dr. Tenuta?" They told me the doctor said we could make an appointment with any other doctor. I'm still in shock...

Definitely an arrogant guy, not caring and doesn’t explain things well. Broke my elbow at 19, my first injury, and he was terrible at guiding me with what to expect short and long term. 8 years later and I can’t bend my elbow past 90 degrees still

Dr. Tenuta does not take his time, he damaged my shoulder when attempting to diagnose the issue. I urge everyone whose had a bad experience to file a complaint with NYS Department of Health.

Referred to Dr Tenuta with knee injury. No crags or scans ordered. He touched my knee a few times then ordered PT. Went to PT and experienced severe pain. Went elsewhere for second opinion. Turns out I had a severely torn meniscus. Thanks for nothing, Dr. Tenuta.

After Dr. Tenuta gave me a diagnosis, he left before giving me a chance to ask questions. It turned out though that his diagnosis was wrong and that I actually have a different problem that I need to deal with. Maybe if he spent more time with me he would have realized he was wrong or it could be that he is just incompetent. What a waste of my time and money! Too bad there wasn't a satisfaction guarantee!

Horrible. Arrogant. Didn't bother to listen to me. In & out within 20-25 minutes. Told me my ankle wasn't broken when it sure as shoot was. Allergic to the non-narcotic pain meds. He didn't care. Best result was a cast/boot, lace up, strap around. If you're poor, homeless & sick, this is NOT the physician for you.

I would NOT recommend this practice. My daughter had surgery on Monday. Nurse called to check in on her on Tuesday. She told her that she could not tolerate the medication, hasnt slept and is in pain. It has now been 31 hrs, 2 phone calls to Dr, Tenutas assistant, and still no response. But the operator said she has not yet "had tome" to speak w/ the dr. The dr on call last night, made a point to tell me he was getting ready to scrub in for surgery... aka... i am too busy for your daughter

This doctor may be professionally competent in the field of orthopedic medicine but lacks good bedside manners, an important aspect of total healing. He appears aloof, disinterested, isn't easy to talk to and doesn't seem to listen. He walked away from me on several occasions without providing any clues as to where he was going or when he was coming back and never showed me or explained to me my X-Rays, etc. I finally walked out on him and to a different orthopedic practice.
