Not very competent nor attentive
She performed surgery on my sister a year ago to what was suppose to.be a liposcopic colon blockage removal and repair. Instead of removing blockage she did a work around and now my sister has a stoma. Dr. Stephens never one time explained to anyone in our family any changes to the plan of care as stated prior to surgery and I am the one she would have to speak with. She has yet to explain next steps for this stoma, explained when it can be reversed, seen her for after care NOTHING. She is NOT to be trusted with your families care RUN AND I MEAN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Look for s Dr who has a proven track record of performing whatever procedure your family member needs. Get a Gastrointestinal surgeon with care, compassion and more importantly EMPATHY for their patients. We are trying to get her to a specialist now to reverse this procedure or at least give her some insight on how much longer she will need it.

Patient abandonment
Did surgery on my sister. Horrible complications from the very beginning. Refuses to see her to assess surgical wound and stoma. She is still in the hospital 6 weeks post op. Dr. Stevens is negligent and withholds care. She has sent my sister to ER from LTAC several times to assess her wounds. However, Dr. Stevens is then 'not available' even though she is the one who ordered transport. Does not really answer questions. Skirts around issues. RUN, DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS SURGEON!

Dr. Jessica Stephens is a very COMPETENT and FRIENDLY colorectal surgeon. She is much younger than most of our doctors, but she is a GREAT physician. (Sometimes the young ones know all the latest techniques!) She made sure that we had all of the needed medications to keep my husband comfortable throughout his recovery. She talked to us at length and made sure that we understood everything. The few times that I called her office with a question... a nurse would listen to my concerns and then put me on hold while she went, right then, and spoke to Dr. Stephens. That kind of timely response is something you do NOT get in every doctor's office! We did NOT want to drive to Houston for a surgeon... so we took a chance on this young doctor... and WE ARE INDEED VERY GLAD WE DID!!!
