I can not speak to the psychiatrist but did meet with the NP (who is also his wife). The hope was to be met with compassion and empathy but was met by someone who was both cruel with her words and her facial expressions. I have never had a medical encounter filled with more condescension, apathy and medical gaslighting. Please know I have worked in medicine for quite some time and have NEVER experienced this level of incompetence, nor have I ever left this type of review. If I could give zero stars I would. She should not be in a helping profession.

Dr. Vander Kooi has been my doctor for years now and has been the best doctor I’ve ever had. He is patient, thorough, never pushy, & always willing to talk things through & try new methods of treatment when needed. I’ve seen several psychiatrist’s before going to him & can honestly say I’d never want to go to anyone else.

Dr. Jeff Vander Kooi great psychiatrist
I found Dr. Vander Kooi to be a very professional psychiatrist. He is easy to talk to and is a good listener. He is readily availabe to help anyone with their pschiatry needs. I would highly recommend Dr. Vander Kooi or his Nurse Practioner for any needs you may have. They both have many years of experience and knows exactly what they are doing.

Dr. Vander Kooi is a faithful hard-working physician who is one of the few who is a doctor of psychiatry and of pharmacy. He is committed to patient care, goes the extra mile for his patients, and is all in. During some extremely rough days it is fair to say he has played a life-saving role with me. He won't let you down when it matters most and you need it most. I'll always be grateful for Dr. Vander Kooi. I could recommend no other doctor than him.

He was patronizing and rude, made unprofessional comments about my previous psychiatrist, and clearly felt that my current therapist was beneath him simply because he didn’t recognize her name. I will not return and I will never suggest anyone go to him.

Basically asked me to choose my own medication. Asked same questions off check list each time. Showed no understanding or empathy. Happy to prescribe drug on top of drug.
