Good doctor
I saw Dr. Karon about an acute gout attack, which I mistook to be shingles. He correctly diagnosed it and I stopped feeling any pain within twelve hours. In the follow-up visit, he explained to me what might have caused the attack. Altogether, a very satisfying experience.

Experienced, thorough, responsive, worth the wait!
Dr. Karon is very experienced and was thorough, thoughtful, responsive to my questions, and fun to talk to. He investigated an issue my previous doctors have underplayed for years, and referred me to a fantastic local specialist that his family had personal experience with. I got an appointment them right away, and am now on a path to be able to resolve the issue. I sense that he tries to build rapport by getting to know you and making jokes sometimes at his own expense. I really appreciate that in a primary care doctor in this day and age where everything has become transactional. He was late and I sense that his long bay area commute may be an occasionl challenge with being on time. In this particular case, my personal experience is that seeing him was well worth even my long wait and having benefited from his care, I would not mind waiting again to see him versus many of my previous PCPs.

I recently visited Dr. Karon about chronic pain problems, he was late for the appointment and he didn't listen very well to my concerns. He did a rushed and poor examination of areas of concern and cut our 20 minute appointment to 10 minutes. He told me to come back in 3 weeks and left the room. I was then sent a bill for $192, for a very poor quality 10 minute visit. I'm not going back. I can't afford to just give my poverty wages away to a doctor that doesn't put the care in health care.
