Dr. Heftler is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and realistic in evaluating patient needs and offering options for treatment. He understood my medical issue and gave clear options for care while ordering only necessary testing and avoiding extra visits by offering a telephone call after test results. He is busy, so it is not always easy to get an appointment. That's what happens when you are a good doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Heftler.

I have been a patient of Dr. Heftler for several years. He is compassionate and listens (and hears) patients concerns. He has given me advice and has not been wrong. He is extremely competent and kind. A rare breed. I am fortunate to be his patient.

Thank you to Dr. Hefler for helping me to get into the best possible condition with my lower back and legs! When 3 months of pt was minimally successful, he gave me 2 injections in my lower back which helped me to be able to enjoy my cruise and go on most excursions off the ship.. I would recommend Dr Hefler for pain management and would return to him again if needed!

The bottom line - after 2 epideurals with minimal benefit, Dr. Heftler had his assistant call me to tell me that surgery was necessary and that I should make an appointment with his colleague (who received poor patient reviews). Instead, I made an appointment with a surgeon at HSS and after some images were taken, I made an appointment for surgery. At the same time, I also made an appointment with another physiatrist at HSS. The physiatrist felt that there was still room for conservative treatment prior to surgery. He prescribed drugs that Heftler did not, and I received a 3rd epidural. I cancelled my surgery 2 days before it was scheduled because my condition improved and, 2 years later, I'm playing golf, pickle ball, running, etc. When this started I could not walk more than 100 yards, even with a cane. Heftler was told that, to me, surgery was my last option and he didn't go the distance with conservative treatment. I see he's received great reviews so hopefully I'm an outlier.

Dr. Heftler has been my doctor for 15 years. His prognosis has always been correct, even when I thought the opposite! He focuses on what you have to say and carefully listens to you. If you have bad back pain, this is the doc you want to see.

Dr. Heftler is brilliant, exceptionally skilled, and has a bedside manner that is absolutely perfect. He is empathetic and responsive-I was in crazy pain when I first met him for an ultrasound injection. He knew I was nervous and knew just how to make me relax so that by the time the injection was over I felt it was, not just a good, but, a positive experience. During my follow-up appointment he did a thorough examination and assessment of my injured area, cheerfully answered all of my questions, suggested options to help me plan next steps, and talked about what he would pay close attention to going forward. Top Doc in every way!

Horrible. Rude, arrogant. I had seen Dr H. previously. This time He refused to help me as I stood in front of him in extreme pain because I was treated by a doctor in New York. He would not even examine me. “Go back and see the doctor in NY. I can’t help you.” He doesn’t deserve the star required.
