Dr. Cates Helped Me.
My 1st visit with Dr. Cates was as a walk-in patient 4 1/3 years ago. I was hearing voices which were controlling my life. I was a wreck and was homeless, 2 months. The voice stopped at 1 year treatment under w/Dr. Cates’ care. I’d been hearing voices for 5 years and had been treated by 3 others; 1 county locked hospital-based psychiatric health facility in California (3x’s- 2 involuntary), 1 medical clinic, & 1 private practice physician. Those 3 other treatments weren’t successful. However, over the course of the 4.34 years under Dr. Cates‘s care the voices have stopped (at year 1), I live in my own apartment (3.42 yrs now), I’ve reconnected w/3 of my 4 sons, I own my own car, I work in a supervisorial position at a nonprofit agency, and I’ve reconnected with lifelong friends. It was at 6 mos. w/Dr. Cates’ care I returned to my hometown, where I’ve reestablished myself in the community. During COVID-19 my appointments continued w/Dr. Cates via telehealth appointments.

Would NOT recommend. I wish I could articulate how upset I was after my appointment with "Dr." Cates yesterday. Arrogant, unhelpful, cold. Filed a grievance against him after visit. Needs to be reviewed by the state licensing board. There is a reason he is still there. A more competent doctor would have moved on. If you are scheduled with him I strongly urge a friend or relative accompany you as an advocate for your treatment.

He's a cold, incompetent pill-pusher. Arrogant and hostile, he makes no effort to educate the patient on medications, dosage, side effects, etc. I had to learn about it all the hard way.

The man is a pill pusher, he met with pharmaceutical reps (his corporate overlord) 68 time in 2014, they paid out $1700 in the form of free meals, yet I had 3 months to see him and when I showed up he had taken the day off to extend his Christmas vacation. I am having adverse side effects from the 5 medications they put me on for anxiety and I can't get anyone to see me about it. I spoke to a nurse about it and they had no answers for me.
