I’m very grateful to Dr Shoemaker! He is very good at what he does! My surgery went much better than what I had hoped for. The care I got was outstanding!

I recently had my very first surgery, a gallbladder removal, with Dr. Shoemaker, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. I was incredibly nervous, but Dr. Shoemaker was so kind and reassuring, which really put me at ease. The surgery went smoothly, and my incisions have healed beautifully with neat, small scars. I’m so grateful for Dr. Shoemaker’s skill and care—it was a great experience!

Dr Shoemaker repaired my daughter’s inguinal hernia initially and when we were in the office saw that he also specializes in surgically helping with reflux with the LINX procedure. My daughter is an athlete who has suffered with GERD for years. We had recently seen a new gastroenterologist for her problem and was told she “would continue all of the different meds and then if that didn’t work she could just quit her sport”. This was not an option for our daughter, she loves her sport and is going to continue swimming in college this fall. Dr Shoemaker spent a lot of time talking with us about the procedure and answering all of our questions and performing all of the testing needed initially. Ultimately she was a great candidate for the LINX and she was able to have the surgery with enough time to recover prior to leaving for college. She said she “never realized just how bad she felt before” and has no relux now. For us, this was an answered prayer and game changer for our daughter.

Dr. Shoemaker performed the LINX surgery on me in January 2024. When I was first exploring the possibility of getting the procedure, Dr. Shoemaker was very knowledgeable, explained the procedure very well, and made me feel comfortable asking questions about the procedure.The surgery went very well. Although the recovery was not easy for my body, Dr. Shoemaker, the nurses, and staff were incredible at helping me through that period.In addition, the follow-up visits were very thorough and I felt very well cared for.From my first intake visit to my final follow-up visit, I found every staff member, nurse, and Dr. Shoemaker, helpful, caring, and easy to communicate with. They genuinely cared about my recovery.

From the moment my husband and I met Dr. Shoemaker, we were very happy with his explanation of the procedure he was about to perform.

I have other medical issues such as primary immune deficiency and autoimmune issues. Dr. Shoemaker really listened to my concerns and asked a lot of clarifying questions to prepare for my surgery. He was great at communicating test results and explaining the procedure and the recovery, so I felt well informed on what to expect.

Dr. Shoemaker was very professional and to the point. I had a gallbladder removal and was in very bad pain. He told me what had to be done. It was a successful surgery and not much pain afterwards. Very caring and supportive staff. Everyone was great. No complaints here.

Dr. Shoemaker explained all my options prior to surgery and listened to and answered all my questions. He was very honest prior to my surgery. After the surgery he spent extra time updating my family. I have recommended him to my friends and family already.

My wife was given Dr. Shoemaker's name by one of his former colleagues, who spoke highly of him. As a career healthcare professional of 40+ years, I found him to be among the most relatable physicians/surgeons I've met --exceptional interpersonal skills and well versed in he art putting patients at ease. Being familiar with both my anticipated diagnosis and its associated surgical repair, I found his explanation of all aspects (i.e. problem, causative mechanism, corrective process) to be thorough and would have found it easily understood irrespective of my healthcare background. His post-operative follow up was equally as thorough and relatable. Would (and already have) highly recommend Dr. Shoemaker to anyone in need of a hernia repair.

I had been experiencing years of chest pain. I had ruled out every cardiology complication, and finally was referred to a GI in a recent ER visit. I chose Dr. Shoemaker, and let me tell you I’ve never experienced anything like it. From our initial conversation to being greeted by his staff day of surgery, and the professionalism he displayed before/during/and after the endoscopy procedure. Dr. Shoemaker was born to do what he does. To save lives. To provide comfort to his patients, and he expects the same level of professionalism from his entire staff. I’m so thankful you this team. I had had a hiatal hernia for several years, but it had stayed small, and somewhere along the way it became large. Apparently I had adjusted to not being well until Dr. Shoemaker did the surgery. I had no idea how bad I was. I had GERD and had become anemic from Cameron ulcers due to the hernia, He honestly gave me back my old self. I’m very grateful for Dr. Shoemakers, kindness and caring he showed me while I was under his care. I would recommend him to anybody and everybody. Also, Courtney in his office handling all the pre-surgery details was absolutely amazing. She had everything in order every step of the way. I have suffered greatly from severe esophageal pain for the past 18 months, to the point where - if I had an “episode” - I could not walk or talk until the pain subsided. I saw Dr. Shoemaker in May 2022, had the requisite tests performed over a series of months to determine if I was eligible and had life-changing LINX surgery on November 14, 2022. I strongly encourage anyone who has GERD or hiatal hernia issues to contact Dr. Shoemaker. My life has improved dramatically!

I had to have unexpected Gallbladder removal in November. I, also, had other complicating issues which made the surgery more in-depth. Dr. Shoemaker clearly laid out the problem, talked at length with me about the surgery treatment and alleviated my concerns. I knew that he may find additional issues once the surgery began and he conveyed to me in a manner in which I could understand without it sounding condescending; he was very comforting. A week later, at my followup, he was incredibly helpful with how to move forward. Dr. Shoemaker, and his team, took great care of me and without I doubt I would ask for him if I ever find myself in the unfortunate position of needed surgery again.

I knew going into my appointment with Dr. Shoemaker that surgery would be necessary to repair an inguinal hernia. I was dreading the lengthy recovery I was expecting. I was quite pleased after my initial conversation with Dr. Shoemaker to find that the recovery should be much less than I anticipated. He was personable, professional, and calming as he explained the procedure and answered every question I had. The surgery was quick and I had minimal soreness after. I took one dose of the prescribed pain killer in anticipation, but did not take any more. I used a gel ice pack on my abdomen every hour. At day 4 I had absolutely no pain or even discomfort. My job requires no lifting and I went to work on day 5 and have been getting better since. I highly recommend Dr. Shoemaker as a surgeon. If I need any in the future he will certainly be the one I will see.

He is a great doc that does great work. His personality is great and I feel comfortable talking to him. I appreciate that he has told me throughout recovery to call with any questions or concerns. He genuinely cares. I highly recommend him!

Quick, in and out, procedure was well performed. No complications, never had to take any pain medication. You can trust this surgeon, just do what you're supposed to do before and after surgery.
