Posting for my mothers interaction with this doctor. dr tufaro has been my mothers pcp for a year and half now. They booked my moms appointment knowing what my moms insurance has been, had her come all the way there for an important follow up to tell her “we don’t take your insurance anymore” my mother said I will self pay, out of pocket and they told her “no that’s fraud.” Since when is personally paying fraud? I would go to any other doctor. No bedside manner either.

Terrible
This doctor was extremely unprofessional and rude. She has zero bedside manner and she should not be a practicing doctor. There is not a single part of her that seemed as though she cared about the wellbeing of her patient and she should be embarrassed of her inability to be a human being.

WORST DOCTOR OFFICE EVER!
Lets start with the good before the bad. Dr. Tufaro is a great doctor. She is knowledgeable and seems caring. Unfortunately she must only care about you when you are at her office paying for the visit. She will NEVER call you back if requested after leaving the office for any reason. I am not sure if she is to blame or its her horrible, useless staff. My mother's health gotten worse recently, I called to office and asked for a call back from the doctor. NO CALL BACK. Then it just gets worse from there. I left this office several messages regarding prescription that was sent to my mother's pharmacy but the insurance didnt cover it. Its simple, if her current medication doesnt cover, you change the medication so patient does not sit there with no medication. You dont just sit there and wait for weeks for the insurance company to reply. Call the office and hold for 20 minutes, every single time, wait time to be seen also sucks! I do not recommend!

Rushed - not that much time is spent on the patient but plenty of time WAITING in exam room. Nice doctor but too many patients per day.

Dr Tufaro is very thorough although my last couple of visits she seems very stress out and in a rush . I don’t think she has good staff . They never find the work lab work , staffs seems disorganized and the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. If you need referrals you have to request a few times because staff forgets about it. I like the dr but I think I will be changing primary care.

Overall I had a good experience with this doctor on my first visit, but I can’t go back. During my appointment she informed me that she wasn’t comfortable prescribing one of my longtime medications and told me I should stop taking it. It was a throwaway answer to a complex problem, but I was OK simply using another doc for that medication. The problems arose when that other doctor wanted to see the labs she did during my physical and her office would not send them over! I have been trying for 2 months to get these records, but her office keeps telling me that I need to make another appointment to come in and review them. Why - am I dying?? If something was wrong I would have expected a phone call. It is against the law to withhold medical records, and it’s turned a fairly good experience into a frustrating and costly problem for me because now I have to pay an out of network doctor to repeat tests that were already covered by my insurance.

On Monday 11/4 I had blood work done. My regular doctor was out. I was told to come in immediately. Dr. Tufaro came into the room and bluntly told me, "You have stage 4 kidney failure." She said my GFR was 17 and anything below 15 was end-stage renal failure. She just read a number off a sheet of paper. (The number was incorrect) She did not take any time to actually look at my body for any of the tell-tale signs of kidney failure, such as swollen feet or ask me if my urine was dark or if I had insomnia or back pain or any of the other signs of kidney failure. Needless to say I was taken aback and extremely upset. I know my body, and what she had just told my didn't ring true...and indeed it wasn't. The blood test was flawed and I do not have kidney failure. She didn't seem to think it strange that I was feeling good through all four stages of renal failure. I didn't see my regular doctor until a few days later, but was stressed and depressed for days.

My appointment with Dr Janet Tufaro was the worst experience I've ever had with a healthcare professional. She has a terrible bedside manner; she was neither kind nor compassionate, was highly dismissive and also prone to making sweeping assumptions. Perhaps she was having a bad day although I've since learned that a friend of mine also saw her years ago and apparently had a similar experience (my friend used far less gentle language describing Dr Tufaro, I might add). AVOID!!!

Dr. Tufaro actually spends time with you, she talks to you not like some doctors who spend 5 minutes with you after waiting for 2 hours and you are out the door, with a prescription in your hand and still not knowing what you can do to improve the way you are feeling. Dr. Tufaro will explain, in detail, what your results mean and what she thinks will improve your health. Dr. Tufaro is up to date on all the new meds and procedure and is just a wonderful and very caring doctor.
