Horrible
I am an actual MD and have NEVER seen such pure cluelessness and lack of care. He could not answer a single question and instructed me to get the information from the nurses. When I addressed the fact that he hadn't answered any of my concerns, he demanded that I listen to him and proceeded to actually give me a lesson and lecture in the pathophysiology of my family members disease process!!!... but NEVER answered any of questions! He had no clue of his patients lab results and did not attempt to inform family of anything. He purposely rounds extremely early as to avoid any advocates. If you are assigned him, do know that you can switch attendings and definitely do so immediately.

Dismissive
He’s too busy for his patients. He will let them suffer and ignore MULTIPLE messages about discomfort. He refuses to discuss care or listen to the patient. He’s dismissive and has no time for the patient. He doesn’t tell the patient or their families anything about patient care.

Dishonest Physician for Geriatric Patients
He's a menace to the geriatric patient population in the Houston area. He bills for services without fulfilling duties of actually doing face to face visits with patients; therefore, they receive less than adequate care verging on negligence. He does not review lab work and he doesn’t coordinate care with specialists. He takes advantage of his role as a hospitalist with a vulnerable patient group that’s admitted thru the emergency department.

McCartan doesn’t visit his hospital patients for more than 5 minutes (and may never actually visit them, instead just writing a brief note and billing Medicare) and he doesn’t review their abnormal labs; he’s neglectful to diagnose and treat nosocomial infections...he’s the kind of physician that would rather dump a complex patient to a nursing home or elsewhere than be resourceful and ask other physicians for help. He’s an absolute disgrace to the noble medical profession.

The physician was assigned to my 91 year old mother in the hospital. My mom had a setback because her outpatient medications were not correctly reviewed in the hospital and she became psychotic due to withholding a medication. This physician did not ask me questions and he used language that was not acceptable to me in discussing her case.

Worst hospitalist. I've experienced hospitals as as a clinician (Ph.D.), patient, & caregiver. He jumped to inaccurate conclusions about my husband's care; refused to believe our self-reports about post-surgical pain once the nerve block wore off. He judged: his pain was out of proportion with what it should be; his blood pressure levels were similar after a stubbed toe; insisted the only explanation was that my husband must be secretly addicted to pain pills and be an addict; refused help.
