After being referred to her and reading her bio, I thought she would be compassionate and understanding to my diagnosis. During my appointment, she never directed the conversation towards me - instead just rattling off information for her nurse to notate. Dr. Shvartsman also made assumptions on my tumor, staring she felt it was pressing up against the colon - all this without doing a thorough exam and before my MRI and PET scan . She never even told me what stage I was!!! I left feeling alienated, confused, scared and angry I'm so grateful I spoke up and had my entire case transferred to Sunset. It took from being diagnosed in May to finally seeing the new specialist at Sunset in July to be told what stage I was. I can't imagine a doctor, let alone a specialist, withholding that information from a patient. I'm just grateful I spoke up and advocated for my own healthcare and have a wonderful team looking out for me now.

Horrible experience
This woman was absolutely horrible. I went with my sister for moral support to hear the results of her tests. She had undergone her first round of chemo with Dr S and was going back to see if it made a difference. She walks into the room and says in a dull tone your cancer has come back and we need to start a 7 hour chemo. When asked what were my options and what if I didn’t do the chemo she said she’d have 6 months to live. No compassion, no, “I’m so sorry to tell you this…or I wish I had better news for you…etc”. How would she like it if she was treated this way or her child or family member was treat this way?! They are already scared and nervous and are looking to their “doctor” who’s supposed to be a professional for guidance, compassion and hope. If you have the misfortune of being assigned this doctor through Kaiser you should definitely ask for another one even if you have to go to a different location. She was awful.

No bedside manner
A family member of mine is undergoing chemo treatment with Dr. Shvartzman’s care. Since the beginning Dr. Shvartzman has not taken the time to properly explain diagnosis, treatment, or test results in a way that is understandable. The appointments are rushed and answers to questions are limited and delivered in an impersonal tone. My family member has to resort to searching online to educate herself on cancer and the chemo experience instead of relying on the oncologist for advice, help, or explanations.

I had a new diagnosis of cancer. Dr. Shvartsman was rude, belittling and insensitive. She was not clear and when asked clarifying questions and was dismissive and avoidant of my questions. Additionally, when she told me I was going to start treatment, she didn't explain the rationale and my question to her would be would you start chemotherapy without adequate information?
